Ultimate Recs Tag

I saw a video a few months ago from the YouTube channel TTreadsYA of them doing the Ultimate Recs Tag. You can follow them on Instagram too: @ttreadsya Their video is here . Go subscribe to them, their channel needs more love!  The original creator of this tag and their video is here:  https://www.tiktok.com/@dreareads/video/7273524380557200673?lang=en As always, feel free to do this tag if you see this post! 1. A book that I will always recommend. Anything I consider underrated is fair game! The Witch's Boy by Kelly Barnhill, Flip the Script by Lyla Lee, and Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier are a few examples.  2. A book that I will recommend if I think we have similar tastes. Again, so many choices! Do you like stories that leave you feeling good and uplifted at the end? One great example would be You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson.  3. A book that I love, but I wouldn't recommend. Most classic books, since they tend to have things that don't a...

As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. all american b*tch (an underrated book) The Witch's Boy by Kelly Barnhill 2. bad idea right (a book you missed sleep for) None. (A book you have mixed feelings for) Nick...

FINALLY FALL TAG!

Yay for another book tag! I saw this tag once again over at the YouTube channel of Angela from Literature Science Alliance (her video here ). It looked like a lot of fun. Feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. In fall, the air is crisp and clear: name a book with a vivid setting. Anything by Kelly Barnhill! As of writing this, I have read from her The Girl who Drank the Moon and The Ogress and the Orphans. I am currently reading The Witch's Boy and is also has a very vivid setting. 2. Nature is beautiful, but also dying: name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief. Three that come to mind are: We Are Okay by Nina LaCour, Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa, and Chasing Redbird by Sharon Creech. 3. Fall is back to school season: share a non-fiction book that taught you something new. Word by Word by Kory Stamper. It's a nonfiction book about how dictionaries are made, specifically the Merriam-Webster English Dictionary...

END OF THE YEAR BOOK TAG

I know it's not literally the end of the year, but the questions for this tag are more reading plans for the final months of the year (the fall and winter). So here are my questions! As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it. 1. Are there any books you've started this year that you need to finish?  As of writing this, Jane of Lantern Hill and The Last Cuentista .  2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year? The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1) .  3.  Is there a new release you're still waiting for? Heartstopper Volume 5! 4. What are 3 books you want to read before the end of the year? Little Women, Braiding Sweetgrass , and Piranesi . 5. Is there a book you think will shock you and become a favorite?  Well, I've already read an excerpt of it, and I have a feeling I'll love Serafina and the Black Cloak!  6. Have you already started making reading plans for 2024? Yes and no. There are a ton of books that I have p...

Classics Book Tag

So I first saw this tag over on the YouTube channel of Mara from bookslikewhoa (check out her video here !), but the tag is originally from another book blog It's a Books World (the original post here ).  As always, I never tag anyone, so feel free to do this tag if you see it! I'd love to see your answers. 1. An overhyped classic you did not like.  Yikes, I have too many answers for this one! I've already said Pride and Prejudice before in two other book tags I did (the first time I did the Unpopular Opinions book tag and Musicals Go Bookish tag ), so I will go with another one I didn't like that I haven't mentioned yet, and that's The Outsiders by SE Hinton . I had this book as a required reading way back in middle school and I thought the story was sooo sad! Even my 12 year old self couldn't understand why we had to read it for school. Even now as an adult I would not consider reading it for fun. Reading about gangs fighting each other is sooo not my th...

UNPOPULAR OPINIONS 2.0 TAG

I first saw this tag over at the Youtube channel of Angela from Literature Science Alliance. Check out her video here ! So we all know the OG Unpopular Opinions book tag, but there is also a 2.0 version with even more questions! Here are my answers.  As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. A genre "great" that you didn't get the hype for. I'm gonna have to say Educated by Tara Westover . For those who don't know, it is a memoir about the author who grew up in an unconventional (and unfortunately toxic) family, and then when she goes to university she learns way more about the world and starts healing from all the emotional scars she got growing up. It sounded like a memoir up my alley, but the thing that made me not like it was I didn't like the way it was written (as in, I didn't like the author's writing style). I actually DNF'd it after chapter 1! The author had a tendency to drone on about details that didn't add much to the...

Midyear Freakout Tag

Yeah, we are technically a little past the midyear point, but better late than never! 1. Best book you read so far this year?  There's too many to pick! I guess I will have to go with Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan. 2. Best sequel you read so far this year?  Garlic and the Witch by Bree Paulsen 3. New releases you haven't read yet, but want to.  Of course, I can't guarantee I will  get around  to them this year, but I have my eye on these three in particular: Imogen Obviously by Becky Albertalli, Deep as the Sea, Red as the Sky by Rita Chang-Eppig, and Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies by Heather Fawcett. 4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.  Heartstopper Volume 5 by Alice Oseman! 5. Biggest disappointment of the year.  Again, too many to name, but I will have to go with 2 of my DNFs: I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte .  6. Biggest surprise of...

@bookdragon_24 tagged me once again (yay!) in another tag. Today I will be giving you a list of things I love (book and non-book related). So I'm just a person who loves... The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Coraline by Neil Gaiman Amelia's Notebook series by Marissa Moss Junie B. THIS OR THAT? Trope Edition

I saw this tag over at @hades.reads Instagram page, and I thought I would do it too! And anyone is free to do this tag as always. 1. Enemies to lovers or friends to lovers? Friends to lovers of course! Although I do like rivals to lovers as well. In my opinion, it is a superior version of enemies to lovers. 2. Fake dating or age gap? Fake dating. 3. Second chance or best friend's brother? Second chance. 4. Grumpy x sunshine or touch her and die? The grumpy x sunshine dynamic.  5. Spice before or after they fall? Neither! I am not a fan of spicy things in books. If anything remotely spicy does happen, I skim over it.

THINGS I LOVE IN BOOKS

I wasn't tagged in this, but I though this tag looked neat. I first saw it over at @hades.reads Instagram page.  As usual, I don't tag anyone. Feel free to do this tag if you see it! So here is everything I realized I love seeing in books: Sassy/funny characters friends to lovers rivals to lovers fake dating dual POV (can be first or third person) mysteries found family Queer characters (anyone underneath the LGBT umbrella!) Disabled characters (physical and nonphysical disabilities!) Ethnically diverse cast of characters self-discovery/self-acceptance stories strong friendships cool magic systems rich worldbuilding cozy settings magical creatures (especially fairies, dragons, and mermaids) likeable characters you want to root for unlikeable characters are unlikable on purpose references to anime/other cartoons witches challenging/questioning societal norms linear storytelling What are your favorite things in books? Do you like any of the ones I just mentioned?

SPILL THE TEA CHALLENGE

I was tagged in this challenge over on Instagram by @edit.write.read.caffeinate . Check out her page! And as always, I don't tag anyone specifically. Feel free to do this tag if you feel like it! T-A book that taught me something: Laziness Does Not Exist by Dr. Devon Price . (You can see my review for it here ). This book was all about embracing rest and how being a workaholic is a product of capitalism.  E-A book I didn't want to end: I am kind of cheating with this answer because it's actually a graphic novel series, but I will say the Bone series by Jeff Smith . As of writing this post I have 5 books left to read in the series and the story is soooo good I don't want it to end just yet ! There is smaller additional material but I don't feel like reading all of it. I am only reading the main series.  A-A book by an author I love: The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery . I read it last year and it was an instant favorite (review here )! I might be done with the Anne se...

TALK ABOUT YOUR TBR TAG

I saw this tag over at the Instagram page of @writingwithcaitlin and decided to do it! Besides, it's been a long time since I did a book tag. 1. Next book you are planning to read: well, I am reading some smaller books (most notably the Witch Hat Atelier manga series) while I am reading my current bigger book ( I Capture the Castle ), so my next big read will be The Last Cherry Blossom by Kathleen Burkinshaw . 2. Latest addition to my TBR: The Farmer's Son: Calving Season on a Family Farm by John Connell. 3. Most hyped book on my TBR: I have sooooo many hyped books on my TBR. To give a single answer, I will say: A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers .  4. Most popular genre on my TBR: I believe I mostly have romance and fantasy books. 5. Prettiest cover on my TBR: Probably a lot of them. If I had to choose one, I'd say The Star Thief by Lindsay Becker. As always, feel free to do this tag if you see this! I'd love to see your answers.

54321 Challenge (book tag)

I originally saw this tag over @linnareads on Instagram way back in November, and I'm finally doing it!  And feel free to do this tag if you see it.  The books above are 2 others I plan on reading next month! 5 books I loved recently: Bone: Out of Boneville by Jeff Smith Baba Yaga's Assistant by Marika McCool Mooncakes by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker Flip the Script by Lyla Lee A Snake Falls to Earth by Darcie Little Badger 4 auto-buy authors Alice Oseman Nicola Yoon Margaret Peterson Haddix Lyla Lee 3 Genres I love Romance Fantasy Historical Fiction 2 places I like to read at My room A coffee shop 1 book I promise to read soon Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree Who are some of your favorite authors?

THE ANTI-TBR TAG

Time for unpopular opinions! This tag was originally created by Nicole and Her Books over on YouTube.  As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. A popular book you have no interest in reading. Honestly I have so many answers for this one. To give you a single answer, I'm going to have to go with Sadie by Courtney Summers . I remember so many people hyping this book up when it came out a few years ago, and I'm just not interested because I am simply not a fan of murder mystery stories. I was also told the book deals with some other really heavy stuff I wouldn't be able to stomach. So yeah, no Sadie for me. 🤷 2. A classic book or author you have no interest in reading. Again, too many answers, despite being a classics lover, but this time I'll have to go with War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy . I heard it's a really long book that takes a ton of effort to read, and the story itself is kind of boring. I do want to still read Anna Karenina though! 3. An author ...

What Reader am I? Challenge

Image
While I am reading several books at once and I haven't finished any of them yet, I will continue coming out with more tags! This is another one I saw over a month ago, this time over @linnareads Instagram page. Here we go! 1. Morning or night: Midday, actually. I find I'm more alert and I remember more midday. 2. Audiobooks or ebooks? Both. 3. Fiction or nonfiction? Both! 4. Paperbacks or hardcovers? Paperbacks 5. New release or old release? Both. Honestly, I don't care how old a book is as long as it's a story I vibe with. 6. Emotional or happy? Depends on my mood. 7. Classic lover or hater? A lover!  8. Silence or sound? Sound. Specifically lofi music. 9. Bookmark or dogear? Bookmark! 10. Mood reader or tbr? Mood reader. That's all for now! What are your answers to these questions? I'd like to see in the comments below!

Wow. I saw this tag from @bookishmarvel back in AUGUST and I'm only finally getting around to doing it. Well, it's about time! The book above (Banner in the Sky by James Ramsey Ullman) is not mentioned here. I read this book when I was about 13 years old, and I remember enjoying it at the time, but I do plan on doing a reread and a review of it soon, so look out for that! Last 3 Reads: People we Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney Among the Betrayed by Margaret Peterson Haddix   Current Read: The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle Future Reads: The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery Hoot by Carl Hiaasen Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! What's next on your TBR?

End of the Year Book Tag

Image
@jacobthebookworm over on Instagram tagged me to do this tag! So let's do it! 1. Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?  Yes! Publishing 101 by Jane Friedman. I checked it out of the library earlier this month and I kept taking pictures of so many of the pages to use for future references, but it was taking up a lot of memory on my phone, so I'm planning to buy the book instead. But I probably won't finish the book itself this year, depending on when I get around to buying it. Oh well! 2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year? I guess The Last Unicorn (pictured above to the right)? I usually associate fall/winter with fantasy.  3. Is there a new release you're still waiting for? Yes! French Kissing in New York by Anne-Sophie Johanneau. It's supposed to come out in January 2023. I read Kisses and Croissants earlier this year and I absolutely adored it! I hope this book is just as good. 4. What are three boo...

TBR Challenge Tag

Image
I saw this tag also over a month ago at @paperbacksandicedcoffee 's Instagram page, and I decided to finally do it! The books in the picture above are other books that happen to be on my TBR list, but I did not have them as answers to the questions. They are (from top to bottom): King of the Wind by Marguerite Henry , Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan , and The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.   1. Next on my TBR: The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle . I hope I love the book as much as I loved the movie. 2. Most recent addition: For my overall TBR? That would be Word by Word by Kory Stamper . It's a nonfiction book all about the history of the dictionary.  3. Most hyped: Overall? Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan.   4. From your favorite genre: Flip the Script by Lyla Lee . I really loved her book I'll Be the One, and I hope I'll also love this one! 5. From your least favorite genre: it's not that I don't like this genre per se; I just don...
