  So I picked up this graphic novel on a whim at the library a few days ago because I needed something smaller to read as I am reading three bigger books. Well, this was fun! Creepy Cat by Cotton Valent is a slice of life gothic graphic novel of a goth girl named Flora who moves into a gothic mansion she inherited from a family member of hers, and discovers the place is "haunted" by some cat-looking creature who can shapeshift, multiply itself, and do other odd things. Flora is very excited to have this cat, but he sometimes makes her life difficult, and sometimes the police gets involve. The policeman who visits her house frequently is named Oscar, and Flora eventually befriends him, too. Flora and Oscar then try to figure out what this cat like creature is and why he behaves so strange while going about their daily lives.  I know it sounds like there is an overarching plot, but for the most part, there isn't really a cohesive plot.   Another cute romance book by Kasie West! PS I Like You by Kasie West is about Lily Abbott, who is a junior in high school who likes writing her own songs, but does not like Chemistry class. One day while bored in said class she starts to write song lyrics of a song she likes on her desk, and someone (another person who sits at her desk in a different class period) starts to add on to her writing. Pretty soon she and her secret pen pal start writing old fashioned paper notes to each other, and Lily gets to learn more about him. She then tries to figure out who in her grade her pen pal might be, all while trying to find a date of her own and trying to enter a songwriting contest where she can earn a scholarship for college.  I don't know what else to say except that this book is so wholesome. I like the way Kasie West writes. This is a great romance book if you want something chill and cute in between reading more intense stuff. I gave it 4 stars . So I enjoyed it for what it...

And I will tell you right now I am planning on reading the sequel.  Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson  is a YA fantasy novel of a young woman named Elisabeth who was raised and works in a magical library containing grimoires that can move, breathe, and talk! On one particular day a mysterious, somewhat aloof sorcerer named Nathaniel comes to visit the library she works at, and since his visit one of the grimoires, a high-ranking one, turns into a Malefict, which is a corrupted grimoire that turns into a monster. After Elisabeth destroys it, she gets in trouble and is kicked out of the library. Nathaniel and his peculiar shapeshifting demon servant named Silas come to get her and they all go to the capital city to see the Chancellor named Ashcroft, who is supposedly going to punish her, but when they arrive, things aren't always as they seem.   Not sure why I put "spoiler-free", because there isn't anything really to spoil. It's just a informative nonfiction book. And an interesting one, too! Word by Word by Kory Stamper is a nonfiction book all about how the dictionary (well, in this case, Merriam-Webster dictionaries) are made, and the history of them. Intertwined there's even a history on some words in the English language and grammar.  The author herself works for Merriam-Webster, and she also talks about what she and her coworkers do at their jobs to help write the dictionary we all know and love. Let me tell you, it was really fascinating and eye-opening! She debunked a lot of myths I personally had about how dictionaries are written. She also talked about the history of the English language and even myths about certain words and grammar.   This book, People we Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry , only came out last year, but ever since it did, the bookish community has been obsessed with it. And I finally read it a while ago! Funnily enough, I started reading it a little bit after it was announced it was getting a movie. What a coincidence. This is a Adult Contemporary Romance book. It's about a young woman named Poppy who likes traveling with her best friend, the stoic but kind English teacher Alex.  Unfortunately, Poppy and Alex had a falling out in their friendship when something happened to the two of them when they went to Croatia several years earlier, and Poppy, feeling unfulfilled with her life working as a journalist for a travel magazine in New York City, decides to rekindle her friendship with Alex through a new trip.   Trigger warning: Kidnapping A while ago I read the very first book of the Janie Johnson series by Caroline B. Cooney , titled The Face on the Milk Carton .  This is a YA novel taking place sometime in the late 80s or early 90s (the book itself was published in 1990), when pictures of missing kids were placed on the sides of milk cartons. Janie Johnson is 15 years old and lives a relatively normal life in her small town in Connecticut.  One day she accidentally drinks milk from the milk carton of one of her friends at lunchtime at school, and she recognizes that the picture of the missing girl on the side is actually...of her? It was a picture of her when she was three years old, and she was supposedly kidnapped from a shopping mall in New Jersey, and her real name is Jennie Spring. Janie cannot believe what she saw.   I just finished reading Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West. This is sweet and cute YA contemporary novel.  It's kind of hard to give a simple summary on what happens in this book aside from the romance, but in this book, you will find (without getting into spoilers):  Our MC named Kate, loves lake activities and her family has a lake activity business that she wants to one day take over. Kate's BFF, Alana, is outgoing, loves to cook, and has a crush on a guy named Diego. A school podcast that Kate is reluctant about hosting at first but then realizes she has a knack for it. A classmate named Frank who's family has a rivalry with Kate's, but he wants to get along better with her. Bonding over magazines at a tutoring center Kate and her big family A little brother named Max and a cousin named Liza with their own fair share of problems. That's all I'll share for now!   I know I didn't mention it earlier this month, but I finally read Matched by Ally Condie . I know I'm kinda late to the game (this book was first published in 2010 and maybe a lot of you have already read it!) with this one, but I struggled for a long time to pick it up because dystopian YA fiction is very hit or miss for me. I actually got this as a gift from a family friend a couple of years ago, but I didn't read the entire thing until now.  So I gave this 4 out of 5 ⭐s. I will explain later. This is about a 17 year old girl named Cassia who lives in a dystopian society where everything is chosen for you to optimize healthy living and success based on your genes. The story begins where Cassia and her family are going to the Matched banquet, which is a ceremony where the Officials (people who work for the government) choose who you are going to be with for the rest of your life (who you will marry, who will you have kids with, etc.). To her surprise, Cassia gets matched...

I went to the library the other day and I picked up a copy of Snapdragon by Kat Leyh on a whim. I did not have it on my TBR, but when I saw it I had to pick it up and read it! The cover looked really cute and I have been craving graphic novels recently. They're easy and quick reads and the stories are almost always so relatable to me! Plus the artwork is gorgeous.   Snapdragon is an urban fantasy, and is about a girl named Snapdragon who has trouble fitting in at her school, and she is obsessed with witch movies. Her dog Good Boy goes missing, and she finds him in the house of an old woman who lives secluded from everyone in her area. Snapdragon thinks the old lady is a witch, and when she goes to her house to get Good Boy back, she sees the lady has skeletons of animals everywhere, and freaks out thinking the old lady will eat her dog. Luckily the old lady doesn't eat her dog, and Snapdragon forms a bond with her after rescuing some baby opossums from her school and gets her...
