Dear Wendy Review

Image
It's like this book was written just for me! Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao is about two first year students at Wellesey College in Wellesey, Massachusetts. One is named Sophie, the other is named Jo. Sophie runs an Instagram account called Dear Wendy where people at Wellesey send her questions (usually about relationships) and she answers them in posts. Jo runs a similar Instagram account called Sincerely Wanda, which is like Dear Wendy but instead of giving serious advice, they give much sillier answers. The two develop a huge rivalry online that the students at Wellesey can't get enough of. Both of them stay anonymous online, and no one else except for their respective roommates know each Instagram account's true identities.  Sophie and Jo end up becoming friends after they meet in their Women and Gender Studies class. They bond over the fact that both of them are aromantic and asexual. They start hanging out with each other more and more and grow close, but each worry about ...

If You'll Have Me Review

What's the last sapphic book you read? If You'll Have Me by Eunnie follows Momo--a shy, quiet girl in her first year of college with few friends and a low-key life. One day, she delivers notes and homework for a class to a classmate of her friend and roommate, Kayla. While there, she sees a girl named PG for the first time in the classmate's dorm room. PG has rumors going around about her that she doesn't stay in a relationship with anyone for too long, and she uses people for her own benefit a lot. The truth is, PG is just a shy as Momo is, and has trouble maintaining any kind of relationship, romantic and platonic, due to something that happened to her in her past with an old friend.  Momo and PG meet for real for the first time at a party, and even dance together! From then on out, they start hanging out more and get to know each other better, and fall in love. They both experience stepping out of their comfort zone for the first time and confront their pasts, too...

She Gets the Girl Review

Image
Have you ever been unsure if you were going to like a popular book, but you give it a try and you end up liking it? That's what happened to me with this book! She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippencott and Alyson Derrick is about two young women in their first year of college--Alex and Molly. Alex does not have the best life at home (parents had a nasty divorce, mother fell into alcoholism, financial struggles, etc.) and she just broke up with her girlfriend, Natalie. Molly is very shy and had friendship troubles in high school, and she wants to get out of her comfort zone in college and finally make some real friends. Alex and Molly meet at a party and Alex finds out about Molly's crush on another girl named Cora. Cora actually went to Molly's high school and is now at the same university. Alex befriends Molly and they make a deal to help Molly get Cora. Alex also makes a deal with her ex-girlfriend Natalie to show her that she is capable of opening up to people by befriend...

Chef's Kiss Graphic Novel Review

Image
I finally got around to reading Chef's Kiss By Jarrett Melendez  ! And it was awesome! This book came at the right time in my life. Not to mention I am in the same area of my life as the characters in this book (a twentysomething trying to find her dream job), so it was beyond relatable. Chef's Kiss is about Ben, who majored in English in college due to his parent's wishes, but has trouble finding a full time job that involves writing. He starts to look for part time jobs that supposedly require less skills but doesn't do so well initially until he stumbles upon a small restaurant run by a hotheaded owner named Chef Davis. Ben is already somewhat good at cooking since he cooks for himself and for his three roommates/friends all the time at home. Either way, his new friend/co-chef and crush, Liam, and two other chefs named Emilia and Mel train him in some of the restaurants' menu items to prove to Chef Davis that he can work there in the kitchen. Ben gets ideas on ...
