French Girl in New York Review

Image
Oh, this one was just lovely! A French Girl in New York by Anna Adams is about Maude, a 16 year old who lives in Carvin, a small town in the north of France with her foster family, who act coldly towards her and refuse to talk to her about her birth parents. Maude also loves to sing and play piano, but unlike most people her age, she prefers opera and classical music. One day during a school field trip in Paris, she comes across an American social media influencer named Chad, and he invites her to perform inside. Maude sings a cover of a popular pop song, and to her surprise, Chad records the whole thing, and it ends up going viral. The next thing Maude knows, a record label president named Terence and his adult daughter Cynthia show up at her house and want to turn her into a pop star! Maude then finds herself in New York City learning the ins and outs of the music business. She also starts falling in love with two guys at once. One named Matt who is her music partner, and anot...

THINGS I LOVE IN BOOKS

I wasn't tagged in this, but I though this tag looked neat. I first saw it over at @hades.reads Instagram page.  As usual, I don't tag anyone. Feel free to do this tag if you see it! So here is everything I realized I love seeing in books: Sassy/funny characters friends to lovers rivals to lovers fake dating dual POV (can be first or third person) mysteries found family Queer characters (anyone underneath the LGBT umbrella!) Disabled characters (physical and nonphysical disabilities!) Ethnically diverse cast of characters self-discovery/self-acceptance stories strong friendships cool magic systems rich worldbuilding cozy settings magical creatures (especially fairies, dragons, and mermaids) likeable characters you want to root for unlikeable characters are unlikable on purpose references to anime/other cartoons witches challenging/questioning societal norms linear storytelling What are your favorite things in books? Do you like any of the ones I just mentioned?

Favorite Anime Part 2

Some other anime I like. Maybe you do too. Or these can be added to your to-watch list. 1. Lovely Complex This is a cute and funny contemporary romance anime about a teenage girl named Risa Koizumi who has been good friends with a guy in her class named Atsushi Otani for a while. She starts to feel romantic feelings towards him, but he doesn't reciprocate at first. Risa's friends and even Otani's friends constantly help Risa out to get closer to Otani, but it doesn't always work out smoothly. As more things get in her path, eventually Risa and Otani do become a couple.  This was such a funny and cute show! I remember a lot of laugh out loud funny scenes from this anime. This show will tug at your heartstrings. Oh yeah, and one of Risa and Otani's friends is a transgender girl and she's portrayed in a really positive manner. So there's good trans rep in this anime. (This is some minor transphobia at the beginning when the other characters find out she's...
