Aunt Whimsy used to be a famous explorer and archeologist, but went into hiding several years earlier and was presumed dead. She also may or may not be a big furry monster (well, I know the answer because I read it).  One day Aunt Whimsy finds out an old rival of hers named Cecilia "discovered" part of an ancient kingdom that Aunt Whimsy and her nanny, Cathryn, actually discovered a long time ago. Hoping to stop her rival from taking all the credit (and to stop them from encountering something dangerous at the kingdom's ruins), Aunt Whimsy, Cathryn, and Safia go on a trip. Set in the 1970s mostly in Texas, Shane and her mother Lorenza have a search-and-rescue business along with their three dogs (well, two live dogs and a ghost dog) Neal, Nealy, and Nellie. They usually search for people in their community that go missing.  But one day as they are trying to investigate the disappearance of Bobby, the younger brother of their neighbor named Donnie, Lorenza mysteriously goes missing, too! Shane, her brother Marcos, and their Grandpa Louis team up with Donnie and her grandparents to find both people.   OMG! I think I found my true favorite Sharon Creech book of all time! Bloomability is now at the number two spot. The Wanderer is about thirteen year old Sophie, who goes on a sailing trip with her two cousins and three uncles across the Atlantic Ocean to meet her grandfather, Bompie, in England. They make a lot of pit stops along the way to get their boat fixed and to pick up more supplies. Sophie and her cousins also learn a lot along the way: about sailing, stories about each other, their uncles, and Bompie, and other random things like juggling. But the trip is not a smooth one! Sailing out onto the ocean blue isn't as whimsical as Sophie thought it would be, and they run into a lot of problems. Luckily, she has her family and they always support one another.  The story is actually told in alternating points of view of Sophie and one of her cousins named Cody. We learn that Sophie is actually hiding a mysterious past that she doesn't really want to talk about, and Cod...

  The little frog in the corner is not part of the book. It's just a candy wrapper of mine that I saved.  The first volume of Our Not-So Lonely Planet Travel Guide by Mone Sorai is about two guys who are boyfriends who plan to travel to different countries around the world before getting married. One guy is named Asashi, who is very practical and serious. The other guy is named Mitsuki, and he is more laid back and cheerful. In this first volume, they visit Thailand, India, and Georgia (the country), in that order. They meet some interesting people along the way, as well as an old friend. Each person they meet shows them something cool about the country, from landmarks to food. Sometimes things go qrong, but at the end of each day Asashi and Mitsuki have fun!  I am so glad I decided to finally pick this up! It's such a simple but sweet story so far. Just like the last book I reviewed on here, you don't know how long I've been wanting to get around to this book. Bicycling with Butterflies by Sara Dykman is a memoir about the author's true story of how she charted and followed the migration paths of monarch butterflies from Mexico to Canada and back to Mexico again. She completed the whole journey via biking! Every chapter of the book recounts every place Dykman biked through and stopped at. She found lots of monarchs, but all sorts of other wildlife too, most important of them all being milkweed, which is what monarch butterflies need to lay their eggs. She also talked about how and where she would find places to camp out in her tent for the nights she was on the road. It wasn't always easy! During her journey she would sometimes go to schools and universities to talk about her journey and scientific research and facts she knew about monarch butterflies. She also talked about all of the people she met along the way...

  Now this is a book that lives up to the hype! The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is about a group of space travelers in a spaceship called the Wayfarer who have been selected to create a space tunnel between two planets that recently had a war with each other in hopes to bring peace. The setting is in the far future where Earth has become mostly inhabitable and many humans have left Earth to go live on other planets (mostly Mars). Those humans are called Exodans, by the way. However, the real focus of the story is about the relationships (friendship, family, and romantic) between our main space traveling team and the wordbuilding as they visit and talk about many different planets along the way. The cast is as follows: Rosemary, a human from Mars who gets to work on the Wayfarer as a clerk and is trying to escape her dark past. Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech is about two 13 year old orphans named Dallas and Florida. They've never had a trusted adult in their lives that they felt safe around, because they are usually taken in by a foster family that get sick of them after a while, and then return them to the run-down orphanage they grew up in, run by a mean couple named Mr. and Mrs.  Trepid. Dallas and Florida constantly dream of becoming runaways by sneaking onto the train that sometimes runs through the town. Not far from the small town they live in, there is a farm called Ruby Holler where an elderly couple named Tiller and Sairy live. They decide to go on two separate trips (a canoeing trip for Tiller and a camping trip for Sairy) and also decide to take in Dallas and Florida and invite them on their trips (Florida will go with Tiller, Dallas wil...

But since the strike ended a few months ago, it's about time I talk about it! This is the second book I've read by Sharon Creech so far in my lifetime. The first one I read was Absolutely Normal Chaos when I was in middle school. I remember loving that book and I decided to read more from her.
