She Loves to Cook & She Loves to Eat Vol 1 Review

Image
A sapphic manga about foodies? Sign me up! Well, I've only read the first volume of She Loves to Cook & She Loves to Eat by Sakaoumi Yuzaki , and so far I love it! It is exactly what it sounds like. A young lady named Nomoto loves to cook food and share pics of her food online, but she always cooks in huge portions and has no one to share it with since she can't eat all of it. That is, until, she finds out one of her neighbors in her apartment complex loves to eat all sorts of foods. The other lady's name is Kasuga. Nomoto and Kasuga end up bonding through all sorts of food, and other experiences, and they seem to be falling for each other.  It's a very chill and slice of life manga, but it is so sweet, funny, and relatable! And all the food they have looks so good. It's mostly Japanese food, too.  I gave this first volume 5 stars . I will read the rest!

OP: Law's Story Review

Image
Omg this might be my favorite One Piece spinoff novel so far! One Piece: Law's Story by Eichiro Oda and Shusei Sakagami is the story of the character Trafalgar D. Water Law on how he met his closest crew members (Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin) and formed the Heart Pirates. He learns a lot about doctoring and martial arts, but especially life, love, and kindness from his new guardian, an eccentric elderly scientist named Wolf.  I can't get too into it because you'd have to be very familiar with One Piece to understand it, but let's just say this book warmed my heart so much! It's very emotional and well written, and it definitely made me love Law even more as a character. I am so glad we get books like these to get to know certain characters in the world of One Piece more. That's because in the main storyline, we only get bits and pieces of other characters backstories, but books like these put it all together.  So yeah, I gave it 5 stars . It's a must read f...

Firefly Wedding (Rant Review)

Image
TW: Kidnapping mentioned.  My first two-star book review of the year?!   Firefly Wedding by Oreco Tachibana is set in the Meiji era of Japan. Our MC Satoko is living with a heart condition, and hopes to secure a good marriage. But one day while she is out in town she gets kidnapped, and in order to save her life, she proposes to marry the assassin holding her hostage, named Shinpei. They escape together, travel from place to place, meet unusual people, and even watch fireflies.  It sounds like an okay story on the surface but...ugh! There were a lot of things happening in the story that made me really uncomfortable. I especially did not like love interest Shinpei--he was so creepy and psychotic! Well, I am not sure what I expected from a character who was an assassin.  Yeah, this was disappointing. I won't be reading the rest of the series.

I Want to Be A Wall Full Series Review

Image
Because this is only three manga volumes long. I Want to be A Wall by Honomi Shirono is a slice of life manga series about a newlywed couple. The wife is named Yuriko and she is asexual. The husband is named Gaku and he is a closeted gay guy  (well, to everyone else except Yuriko)  with an unrequited crush on his childhood friend Sousuke (who is also their gardener). Neither one of them is actually in love with each other, but they still support each other platonically.  Along the way, we end up learning more about Yuriko and Gaku's past as well as more about their respective families and friends. They all end up making really big decisions about their futures.  This series was so heartfelt and emotional, and pretty funny at times, too. It had great commentaries on people marrying for different reasons. It's not always for romantic love, and that's totally valid! There's plenty of great queer representation, too. As an asexual person myself, I related ...

Worst Book of the Year+All the Books I DNF (so far)

Luckily, there is only one book I gave a low rating to this year, but it wasn't even that bad. But it was still disappointing! In other words, it was 3 stars . That book is... Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I still love the Studio Ghibli movie this book is based off of! Just not the book. Delicious in Dungeon Volume 1 Review

Image
I finally picked up the first volume of this popular manga series! Did I like it? Well.. Delicious in Dungeon by Ryoko Kui is set in a fantasy world where a member of a group of travelers gets eaten by a dragon while venturing near a dungeon. The member's name is Falin, and she is the sister of the leader of the group. His name is Laios. To rescue Laios's sister Falin, they have to venture through the underground dungeon and deal with its monsters. But they can't do any of it on an empty stomach! So with the help of their new friend Senshi, they learn what animals and plants in the dungeon are safe to eat and how to prepare them. The gang gets to try so many new, delicious foods. I really liked the character dynamics, and the mythical creatures and plants in the world of the story were really cool! Seeing them being cooked and eaten by the characters felt really cozy. It kind of reminded me of Witch Hat Kitchen , the chill spin off of Witch Hat Atelier . But I did give i...
