Favorite Authors Part 10: Lyla Lee

Welcome back to another part of my Favorite Authors series! Here is another one that's a little more recent. The first book I read from Lyla Lee was I'll Be the One back in 2022. I absolutely loved it! Whenever I recommend people a book about K Pop, Korean rep, plus-sized rep, and queer rep, I recommend this one! I then read Flip the Script later in the same year. Also a masterpiece! This one is about K-Dramas and also features plenty of queer representation. Earlier this year I read the first book in her new middle grade series, Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd, and I also had a blast with it! I can't wait for the next book to come out.  I know she has a long running early chapter books series called Mindy Kim. I might read them one day. I heard they are kind of like the Junie B Jones series. As of writing this, Lyla Lee has two new books coming out! One will be an YA romance novel called The Cuffing Game, and the other is her first adult romance novel called Love in Focus. I a...

Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd Review

Image
(Pic was found on Google Images)   Another great book by one of my favorite authors, Lyla Lee ! Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd follows Gigi, a preteen girl who loves art and wants to work in some sort of artistic field. She finds out through her art teacher about a summer art program that will feature one of her favorite artists, Christiania Moon, but it costs a lot of money. Gigi knows her parents will probably not want to pay for it, as they want her to study something more "practical", aka something not art-related.  Luckily, Gigi finds a way to earn money. After helping her younger brother Tommy with his math homework, Gigi decides to form a tutoring club called the Ace Squad with her best friends, Carolina and Zeina. A fourth girl named Emma eventually joins them. Their tutoring sessions at the library aren't always smooth, but by tutoring elementary school students, they know they will eventually get enough money to all go to the expensive art camp! This was such a fun boo...

Underrated Books Part 4

Well, what do you think? More book I barely see anyone online talk about that need more love!  Three of these I read this year and one I read last year. There will be links to full reviews and to the authors' websites too, if applicable. 1. Flip the Script by Lyla Lee . Hana is a Korean-American teenage actress who lives in South Korea. She gets to be the lead role in a new K-Drama, and she gets to act alongside Bryan, who is a popular teenage K Pop star. He plays the love interest in the story. However, the initial ratings for the show don't look so good, and the company president wants them to fake date, thinking it will boost ratings. They're reluctant at first, but Hana and Bryan agree to it. Eventually, things get more complicated when the director decides to add a love triangle to the K Drama, and the other love interest gets played by none other than veteran K-Drama actress Minjee. Minjee is also Hana's best friend, and Hana has secretly had a crush on her for ...

Underrated Books List Part 1

These are some books that I have read and loved but I don't see a lot of other people talk about them on Bookstagram/Booktube/wherever else people talk about books. So I recommend you check out all of these titles if your reading tastes are very similar to mine! 1. Mandy by Julie Andrews Yes, this was written by that Julie Andrews. It is about a 10 year old girl named Mandy who grew up and lives in an orphanage, but she always felt that she needed a place of her own. One day as she is exploring the woods behind the orphanage, she comes across an old abandoned cottage. She starts to secretly escape there everyday; tidying up the cottage and growing a garden there. Eventually her secret visits to the cottage lead her to a life-changing event. It's a really sweet and heartwarming book. If you like cottagecore-esque books with great characters similar to Anne of Green Gables , you'll love Mandy! 2. Running out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix This was actually Haddix's...

FLIP THE SCRIPT SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Image
This book is proof Lyla Lee is one of my favorite authors ever! Flip the Script is a YA Contemporary book about a Korean-American girl named Hana who lives in South Korea. She is an actress debuting in a new K-Drama called Fated Destiny alongside a teenage K-pop sensation named Bryan. As the show starts airing on TV, it isn't doing so hot on ratings, so the company president makes a decision for Hana and Bryan to start fake-dating, thinking it will boost viewership if fans see the actors "dating". Hana and Bryan aren't too sure about it, but they want their acting careers to take off, so they initially agree to do it. However, Hana has a secret: she's bi, and she has had a long time crush on her best friend and veteran K-Drama actress Minjee. Things start to get intense when a decision is made to cast Minjee as the love rival character in the show. Now Hana, Bryan, and Minjee all start trying to achieve their individual goals when it comes to their love lives ...

Booksta Backstory Challenge Tag

Image
I saw this tag over on the Instagram page of @jacobthebookworm , and I decided to do it, too! Just like the unpopular opinions tag (or every tag I decide to do), I might do this tag once every year as new people follow me. 1. When did you start your booksta/book blog? If you want the exact date, it's August 5th, 2022. 2. What made you start it? I wanted to connect with more people who might have similar reading tastes to me, so we can gush about our faves and give each other recommendations. 3. What inspired your username? I like candy and bunnies since they are cute things since I love all things cute, so that's why I meshed them together to get "Candy Bunny Reader".  4. First review? Where the Mountain meet the Moon by Grace Lin! You can find that review here . 5. Favorite thing about booksta/book blogs? You can discover a bunch of books you never heard before that might become your favorites, or find people who share similar, if not, the exact same opinions as yo...

Coffee Book Tag!

Image
🐰COFFEE BOOK TAG🐰 I saw this tag over at  @paperbacksandicedcoffee  and I thought I would do it! The book in this picture is Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West. ☕Expresso (A book that was hard to get through) Palace of Mirrors by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The first half was OK, but the second half was a huge jumbled up mess and got really confusing. ☕Cappuccino (A book everyone has read but me) Too many to list! I guess I'll just say Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I've known about that book since I was a kid, and I still haven't read it. ☕Latte (a sweet read) Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Johanneau! I feel like that book was written specifically for me. ☕Mocha (an emotional read) Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley. ☕Macchiato (favorite read of the year) I already said Kisses and Croissants, but I also really loved I'll Be the One by Lyla Lee. Feel free to do this tag if you see it! What is your favorite coffee or drink?
