Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd Review

Image
(Pic was found on Google Images)   Another great book by one of my favorite authors, Lyla Lee ! Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd follows Gigi, a preteen girl who loves art and wants to work in some sort of artistic field. She finds out through her art teacher about a summer art program that will feature one of her favorite artists, Christiania Moon, but it costs a lot of money. Gigi knows her parents will probably not want to pay for it, as they want her to study something more "practical", aka something not art-related.  Luckily, Gigi finds a way to earn money. After helping her younger brother Tommy with his math homework, Gigi decides to form a tutoring club called the Ace Squad with her best friends, Carolina and Zeina. A fourth girl named Emma eventually joins them. Their tutoring sessions at the library aren't always smooth, but by tutoring elementary school students, they know they will eventually get enough money to all go to the expensive art camp! Artwork Post #2

Another post of my art! Another painting. You might or might not remember in my last artwork post I mentioned I took watercolor classes with a local artist in my area named Ryan Fox (@rfox90 on Instagram). The very first thing I painted in that class was this picture of these apples! I am very proud of this painting because I applied new watercolor techniques for the first time while painting it, like making some areas lighter to create shine (as you can see on the apples) and blending colors in the background (another way to shade, or just to have an interesting background that's not just one solid color).  I can't wait to show off more of my paintings! Are any of you also artists?

Aside from being a marketer, reader, and aspiring author, I am also an artist! I am not a professional though. I've always loved drawing and painting. Mostly drawing though. Especially drawing cartoons and anime. Sometimes I do draw and paint more realistic stuff. Such as the painting above.  I painted this butterfly back in summer of 2019 when I was at a watercolor workshop class led by Ryan Fox, an artist who is local to my area. He's a really cool guy, and you can check out his website here  . I learned at lot of watercolor techniques there, such as letting different colors run and blend together naturally, and watercolor blooms. Ryan brought a lot of pictures for us to trace and paint, and one of them was of a monarch butterfly on a leaf. I kept the leaf green, but I decided to make the butterfly purple and pink, which are my favorite colors.  It was a fun class, and now my favorite form of painting is with watercolors! I have more paintings I'd love to share o...
