The Secret Letters Review

Image
Another great book by Margaret Peterson Haddix ! The Secret Letters follows two preteens, Colin and Navaeh. Colin's single mother works as a consultant to help people tidy up their homes and remove and sell clutter. Navaeh's dad is the total opposite: he is known as the "Junk King" in their small town and buys old junk from people and keeps all of it. Their parents are huge business rivals!  Navaeh's dad gets called to buy out the stuff in the storage unit for a guy named Arthur Mongold. But when Navaeh and her whole family get there, the storage unit is empty! Except for a single letter. Navaeh's dad assumes Colin's mother must've stolen everything. His family tells him not to jump to conclusions and they will try to figure out where the Mongold's stuff went, and who wrote the mysterious letter that was left. One day, Colin, his mother, and three teenagers she hired are cleaning out one house when Colin discovers a shoebox underneath the floorb...

Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd Review

Image
(Pic was found on Google Images)   Another great book by one of my favorite authors, Lyla Lee ! Gigi Shin is Not a Nerd follows Gigi, a preteen girl who loves art and wants to work in some sort of artistic field. She finds out through her art teacher about a summer art program that will feature one of her favorite artists, Christiania Moon, but it costs a lot of money. Gigi knows her parents will probably not want to pay for it, as they want her to study something more "practical", aka something not art-related.  Luckily, Gigi finds a way to earn money. After helping her younger brother Tommy with his math homework, Gigi decides to form a tutoring club called the Ace Squad with her best friends, Carolina and Zeina. A fourth girl named Emma eventually joins them. Their tutoring sessions at the library aren't always smooth, but by tutoring elementary school students, they know they will eventually get enough money to all go to the expensive art camp! This was such a fun boo...

I FINALLY STARTED THE WITCH BOY SERIES BY MOLLY OSTERTAG

Image
So glad I finally found this first book! I've been wanting to read it for a long time. The Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag is about Aster--a boy who comes from a family where the women are witches and the men are shapeshifters. However, Aster has trouble with his shapeshifting powers, and he doesn't feel in touch with shapeshifting in general. He'd rather be a witch. He secretly looks at the witchcraft lessons the girls in his family take, and he tries out some spells of his own. His family is not happy with his witch activities whenever they catch him in the act. The only one who is happy with his witch activities and is cool with watching him do them is a new friend named Charlie.  At the same time, some of the boys in Aster's family have been mysteriously  disappearing. Aster decides to use his witch powers to save the day, even if it will stir up drama. I gave this book 5 stars . This was another pleasant, magical book by Molly Ostertag! The first book I read from her/...

Unfamiliar Volume 2 Brief Review

Image
Yeah, I just talked about the first book a few days ago, but I got to talk about the sequel! Something I rarely ever do, but that's because this sequel blew my mind! Unfamiliar Volume 2 by Haley Newsome is the sequel to Unfamiliar Volume 1 . In this sequel, it is a lot more story driven, a lot more darker, and a lot more serious. There's more character development, and twists about some characters we've met in previous volumes. While out witchy girls continue dealing with mishaps mostly involving ghosts, two of our characters fall in love (yup, a Sapphic romance! 😃). But overall, it still has the same cozy vibes just like the first book. A pure 5 star book ! I hope I convinced you to put these books on your TBR if you haven't already. I'd seriously love to read anything else this author puts out! I've also started watching her YouTube channel. 😉

NANCY DREW AND THE BUNGALOW MYSTERY SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Image
TW: Loss of family members and an explosion mentioned This is the 3rd Nancy Drew book overall! The story begins with Nancy and her friend Helen almost getting shipwrecked on a lake during a thunderstorm. They are rescued by a girl named Laura Pendleton, who is currently going through some tough times since she lost her parents and will be going to live with new guardians who were good friends of her parents, named the Aborns. The Aborns are not very friendly people, and Laura needs Nancy and Helen's help with dealing with them, especially since she suspects they are out for her family fortune and jewelry. The three girls stay in a bungalow near the lake while they wait for the storm to subside, and Nancy leaves a note to the owner thanking them for using their property, even though she has no idea who they are, and part of the mystery is figuring out who the owner of the bungalow is. Later, Nancy gets a new mystery to solve from her father who is dealing with a case with several t...

I CAUGHT UP WITH HEARTSTOPPER!

Image
But I can't do a full review because it's book four. I will let you know it's just as beautiful as the previous three. 5 stars from me! I love how groundbreaking the mental health representation is in this specific volume.  I can't wait for volume 5! I will also be checking out the Heartstopper Yearbook and everything else Alice Oseman has to offer us in Nick and Charlie's world. You can check it all out at her website here (also comes with trigger warnings for all of her books!).  I'm really passionate about Alice Oseman's works. Is there an author you're really passionate about too?

THE ANTI-TBR TAG

Time for unpopular opinions! This tag was originally created by Nicole and Her Books over on YouTube.  As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. A popular book you have no interest in reading. Honestly I have so many answers for this one. To give you a single answer, I'm going to have to go with Sadie by Courtney Summers . I remember so many people hyping this book up when it came out a few years ago, and I'm just not interested because I am simply not a fan of murder mystery stories. I was also told the book deals with some other really heavy stuff I wouldn't be able to stomach. So yeah, no Sadie for me. 🤷 2. A classic book or author you have no interest in reading. Again, too many answers, despite being a classics lover, but this time I'll have to go with War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy . I heard it's a really long book that takes a ton of effort to read, and the story itself is kind of boring. I do want to still read Anna Karenina though! 3. An author ...
