A cute graphic novel I picked up on a whim. Pizza Witch by Sarah Graley and Stef Purenins follows Roxy and her cat George. Roxy wants to be the champion witch at making pizza (a kitchen witch if you will!) like her idol, Jeremy. Jeremy is the owner of a famous pizza restaurant, Pizza Warlock, which is also where Roxy works. He always sends Roxy on quests to get ingredients. Roxy wonders when she will finally hone her skills on making pizza magically. Well, one day she gets sent on this much bigger quest to find the legendary ingredient: The Remarkable Oregano. It isn't easy, but she does manage to make a girlfriend along the way named Erin, and she finds out something not-so-nice about Jeremy, too.  I had a lot of fun with this book! It's very predictable, but that for me was a good thing--I was just in the mood for a light, comfort read.  I did give it 4 stars , but that's because I thought the ending was a little abrupt. I honestly felt that it was kind of a cliffhanger....

 A sapphic manga about foodies? Sign me up! Well, I've only read the first volume of She Loves to Cook & She Loves to Eat by Sakaoumi Yuzaki , and so far I love it! It is exactly what it sounds like. A young lady named Nomoto loves to cook food and share pics of her food online, but she always cooks in huge portions and has no one to share it with since she can't eat all of it. That is, until, she finds out one of her neighbors in her apartment complex loves to eat all sorts of foods. The other lady's name is Kasuga. Nomoto and Kasuga end up bonding through all sorts of food, and other experiences, and they seem to be falling for each other.  It's a very chill and slice of life manga, but it is so sweet, funny, and relatable! And all the food they have looks so good. It's mostly Japanese food, too.  I gave this first volume 5 stars . I will read the rest!

Doughnuts Under A Crescent Moon by Shio Usui f ollows Uno Hinako, a twentysomething who tries to have a normal life by following society's expectations of looking a certain way to try to fall in love, but she is not happy. One day one of her coworkers named Asahi Sato finds her crying alone in a park, and she cheers her up by sharing doughnuts with her. The two quickly become friends, and Uno starts trying to unlearn her people-pleasing behavior, but it isn't easy. Luckily, she has fun hanging out with Sato and her younger sister, and bonding over food.  So far I loved this first volume! I gave it 5 stars . It has everything I like in storytelling: queer characters, slice of life elements, and food. I also love the messages of how "normal" looks different from person to person.   A Banh Mi for Two by Trinity Nguyen follows two girls: Lan and Vivi. Lan spends her days working at her family's banh mi stall, and also has a popular blog. It's all about food and food stalls in Sai Gon, the city where she lives. But she hasn't felt inspired to write anything in a long time. At the same time, Vivi has come to Viet Nam via study abroad with her university. Her main goal is actually to track down her mother's side of the family, whom she's never met and find out why her mother lost contact with them a long time ago. Her only clues are some old photographs of her mother, aunt, and grandmother. Vivi is also a huge fan of Lan's blog.  The two girls meet on accident in a public park. Things start out rocky at first, but when Vivi gushes to Lan about how much she loves her blog, the two become best friends.    I finally picked up the first volume of this popular manga series! Did I like it? Well.. Delicious in Dungeon by Ryoko Kui is set in a fantasy world where a member of a group of travelers gets eaten by a dragon while venturing near a dungeon. The member's name is Falin, and she is the sister of the leader of the group. His name is Laios. To rescue Laios's sister Falin, they have to venture through the underground dungeon and deal with its monsters. But they can't do any of it on an empty stomach! So with the help of their new friend Senshi, they learn what animals and plants in the dungeon are safe to eat and how to prepare them. The gang gets to try so many new, delicious foods. I really liked the character dynamics, and the mythical creatures and plants in the world of the story were really cool! Seeing them being cooked and eaten by the characters felt really cozy.
