Bone: Rose's Story

Image
This is not a typical review. It's just that I read the entire Bone series by Jeff Smith a few years ago when I first started my blog, and it was epic! I need to reread the series sometime, and the rest of the supplemental material. This book is the prequel about the character Thorn's grandmother, and the events of what led to the conflict that we see in Bone (if you know, you know). I gave it 5 stars !

Underrated Books Part 10

We've finally arrived to part 10 of my underrated books series! I hope you like these books too. Or are planning on reading them thanks to me.  Goodreads links are provided, too. 1. Word by Word by Korey Stamper .  It's an informational nonfiction book on how the Merriam-Webster dictionary is made, written by someone who has worked there.  2. How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell . A hilarious middle grade book about a boy named Billy who won't lose to a bet to eat fried worms. After all, he needs the money to buy a new bike! 3. Cake Pop Crush by Suzanne Nelson . A cute middle grade book of a girl who tries to save her family's old fashioned bakery when a rival bakery comes into town. And she catches the attention of the owner's son. 4. Bone series by Jeff Smith . An epic (and sometimes funny) fantasy adventure with a unique art style.

End of the Year Book Tag 2024 Edition

I do this tag every year in September! Here are this year's answers.  As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1.  Are there any books you've started this year that you need to finish?  As of writing this, A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. I am also rereading Witch Hat Atelier up to Volume 11. Sometime I need to get my hands on the newest volume that I haven't read yet, which is #12.  2.  Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year? I have two! Tuki by Jeff Smith. I am not sure if it's super autumnal themed, but I also want to begin The Dos and Donuts of Love by Adiba Jaigirdar soon.  3.  Is there a new release you're still waiting for? I also have two! Silverborn , which is Book 4 of the Morrigan Crow series by Jessica Townsend. Also Sylvia Doe and the 100 Year Flood by Robert Beatty. 4.  What are 3 books you want to read before the end of the year? The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich by D...

MAY WRAP UP

Isn't it strange how ever since I started this blog I never done monthly wrap ups? It just never occurred to me to do it, but here we go. Here is my first one.  I read a total of 8 books this month. I'm not gonna get into the nitty gritty stats of them. Here there are: One Piece Volume 1. So I finally started my One Piece journey and so far I'm loving it! The very first book gets 5 stars from me. I think it's mainstream knowledge of what this book is about. Boy named Luffy is inspired by pirates in his youth. Hears about the "One Piece" treasure. Luffy wants to find it and become the Pirate King. Also accidentally eats a magical fruit that makes him rubber-like. Traveling and meeting all kinds of people ensues.  Mysteries of Thorn Manor . This is the sequel novella to Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson which I read earlier this year and enjoyed. (Review for Sorcery of Thorns here if you're curious) This was a worthy follow-up too that deepened Elis...

SPILL THE TEA CHALLENGE

I was tagged in this challenge over on Instagram by @edit.write.read.caffeinate . Check out her page! And as always, I don't tag anyone specifically. Feel free to do this tag if you feel like it! T-A book that taught me something: Laziness Does Not Exist by Dr. Devon Price . (You can see my review for it here ). This book was all about embracing rest and how being a workaholic is a product of capitalism.  E-A book I didn't want to end: I am kind of cheating with this answer because it's actually a graphic novel series, but I will say the Bone series by Jeff Smith . As of writing this post I have 5 books left to read in the series and the story is soooo good I don't want it to end just yet ! There is smaller additional material but I don't feel like reading all of it. I am only reading the main series.  A-A book by an author I love: The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery . I read it last year and it was an instant favorite (review here )! I might be done with the Anne se...

I FINALLY STARTED READING BONE BY JEFF SMITH

Image
I've known about the graphic novel series since I was in elementary school because a lot of kids in my class liked it, but I didn't start reading it until now. Just like every series I review on here, I will only review the first book without spoilers, and I will occasionally update you all when I am reading the subsequent books.  The first volume of Bone by Jeff Smith is titled Out from Boneville. Our MCs are the 3 Bone cousins: Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone. They got kicked out of Boneville because of some really bad thing mostly Phoney Bone did (he's also a shady businessman). They accidentally become separated when a huge swarm of locusts chase after them. They then all try to survive without each other. We mostly follow Fone Bone (on the cover of this book) as he tries to survive in the huge woods through the winter. He later encounters and even becomes good friends with a young girl named Thorn and her grandmother, and they let him stay on their fa...
