Fall in Love, You False Angels Review

Image
It's rather refreshing to read a shojo manga series where the MC is not a goody two-shoes all the time. Fall in Love, You False Angels by Coco Uzuki is about high schoolers Otogi and Toki, who are the leaders of their student council at school. They are very popular because everyone thinks they are like angels since they are so pretty and act nice all of the time. But they both have a a brasher, not-so-sweet side to them that they keep hidden. As you can imagine, both of them reveal their not-so-sweet side to each other in a moment of danger. From there, Otogi finds herself falling in love with Toki (she also has a nickname she accidentally made up for him, Ikkoku!). Toki seems to be falling for her, too. They both agree to keep their snippy sides hidden from everyone else at school, and only show those sides when they are alone together.  It's only the first volume, and I'm already hooked! I love romance manga like this where the characters are really sassy, which makes f...

No Talking by Andrew Clements Review

Image
My third Andrew Clements book! The first two I read were Frindle and The Report Card back when I was a kid. Then I reread them a few years ago and loved them the same. I did try reading Lunch Money about a year or so ago, but DNF'd it. But I read this one in its entirety and really liked it! No Talking is about Dave and Lynsey--two fifth graders who annoy each other a lot. Their fifth grade class is notorious for being unable to stop talking. So much so that their group has been nicknamed "The Unshushables". After embarassing Lynsey in class for not properly doing an oral report, Dave makes a bet that the girls probably can't go a long time without talking. Lynsey bets that the boys can't go a long time without talking either. Dave gets all of the boys on his side, and Lynsey all of the girls. Pretty soon their social experiment of not talking and communicating with few words possible extends to the whole fifth grade! It weirds out the teachers--but prett...

Anime/Manga Poem #6

Image
Here's the thing: today's poem is inspired by One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. And today is One Piece's 25th anniversary!!! Yay!!!  However, One Piece has sooo much music surrounding it, since it is a 25 year franchise. So instead of one of the openings or other random songs, I decided to share a video of the live-action actors having fun. Ironically, I haven't seen the live action version yet. I do follow the official page and most of the actors on Instagram, though. This will be one of the last poems I will post in a while. I will resume with more anime/manga poems in December.  Poem: Come with me to the colorful world Of colorful people Of colorful fruit And all things magic Doesn’t matter who you are You’re never too old To follow your dreams So start sailing! Pirate or marine Or…something else Go find the one thing You’re looking for You’ll run into some jerks—oh yes Jerks are everywhere, they say But with the found family that you found Y...

Let’s go to his next concert! Ugh. Our friends are shipping us again. This isn’t an anime This is real life! Whatever Hopefully no one will come between us Save the drama… Hey! Are you listening?! Stop dozin’ off! Ugh. Now our friends are laughing at us They really want us To be a real-life comedy duo Quit it, all of you Let’s just dress in the latest trends And get tickets to that fire Umibozou concert.
