Somehow I forgot to mention these books...

Remember my post from January where I showcased series I wanted to finish or catch up with? Well, somehow I forgot to mention these four! Well, one of them (the Winterhouse series), is one I started this year. I read the first book in January.  The Awakening of Roku is the second book of the Avatar Roku duology, which itself is part of the larger Chronicles of the Avatar series (6th book overall, I think?) Pennies is a prequel book to the Blight Harbor series by Lora Senf (I read the first three books last year, The Clackity, The Lighthouse Keeper, and the Loneliest Place ) Brigands and Breadknives is the sequel to Legends and Lattes ,which I read back in 2023. I read the prequel Bookshops and Bonedust back in 2024. The Secrets of Winterhouse is the sequel to Winterhouse , which I read this past January.

I FINALLY READ THE FIRST VOLUME OF HEARTSTOPPER BY ALICE OSEMAN

TW: Mention of a toxic relationship and a non-consensual kiss This graphic novel is more proof Alice Oseman is one of my favorite authors ever! The first novel of this webcomic-turned graphic novel series Heartstopper is about a teenage boy named Charlie who is rather unpopular at his school. Charlie is also openly gay, and in the beginning is actively trying to get out of a toxic relationship with another guy named Ben. When the new school year starts, Charlie gets a seat next to a popular guy named Nick in one of his classes. Nick is very friendly to Charlie, and they start to hang out and form a close friendship with each other. They become even better friends after Charlie stands up for himself towards Ben and Nick tells Ben to stay away from Charlie or else. Charlie finds himself slowly falling in love with Nick, but he is not sure if Nick will also like him back the same way. At the same time, Nick is questioning his own romantic orientation. This was such a sweet book! A...

Matched by Ally Condie Spoiler-Free Review

I know I didn't mention it earlier this month, but I finally read Matched by Ally Condie . I know I'm kinda late to the game (this book was first published in 2010 and maybe a lot of you have already read it!) with this one, but I struggled for a long time to pick it up because dystopian YA fiction is very hit or miss for me. I actually got this as a gift from a family friend a couple of years ago, but I didn't read the entire thing until now.  So I gave this 4 out of 5 ⭐s. I will explain later. This is about a 17 year old girl named Cassia who lives in a dystopian society where everything is chosen for you to optimize healthy living and success based on your genes. The story begins where Cassia and her family are going to the Matched banquet, which is a ceremony where the Officials (people who work for the government) choose who you are going to be with for the rest of your life (who you will marry, who will you have kids with, etc.). To her surprise, Cassia gets matched...
