Part 1 of some series that I tried in the last 2 or so years where I read the first book or the first couple of books in its series and have no interest in continuing. For various reasons. 1.  The Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers . Listen: I ADORED the first book The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet , but I felt the first book was already satisfying enough on its own. I don't feel the need to read the rest of the series.  2. The original Nancy Drew books by Carolyn Keene . If you've been on my blog since the beginning you'd know that I read the first 5 or so books. They were pretty interesting, but I found after a while that I wasn't really that passionate about Nancy and her adventures. I respect how influential they are on youth literature, but I won't be reading anymore of them. 3. The Moomins series by Tove Jansson . I do love the Moomins very much! But I found more enjoyment in the TV show adaptations than in the books. It's kind of like how I switched fr...

TW: Things catching on fire mentioned  Another great Nancy Drew mystery! I gave it 5 stars . In this book, Nancy Drew is staying at the historical Lilac Inn for the wedding of her friend, Emily. When she arrives there, things start to get weird. Things vanish and move around, and some parts of the Inn's infrastructure seem to be malfunctioning. The Inn is rumored to be haunted, and Nancy is trying to figure out the logical explanation behind all of the mishaps. At the same time, someone stole Nancy's personal information and is pretending to be her, and Nancy starts getting accused of things she didn't do. So then Nancy has to figure out who her imposter is and put a stop to them.  Like the previous novels, the two seemingly separate mysteries happen to be connected at the end, and there are a ton of red herrings that will through you off course as you try to figure out the mystery with Nancy and her friends.  TW: Loss of family members and an explosion mentioned This is the 3rd Nancy Drew book overall! The story begins with Nancy and her friend Helen almost getting shipwrecked on a lake during a thunderstorm. They are rescued by a girl named Laura Pendleton, who is currently going through some tough times since she lost her parents and will be going to live with new guardians who were good friends of her parents, named the Aborns. The Aborns are not very friendly people, and Laura needs Nancy and Helen's help with dealing with them, especially since she suspects they are out for her family fortune and jewelry. The three girls stay in a bungalow near the lake while they wait for the storm to subside, and Nancy leaves a note to the owner thanking them for using their property, even though she has no idea who they are, and part of the mystery is figuring out who the owner of the bungalow is.   The second OG Nancy Drew book! Nancy Drew and The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene follow Nancy Drew solving a mystery over at the estate of her best friend Helen's great grandmother, Miss Flora. Miss Flora's big house has been reported to be haunted: things keep moving and food keeps getting stolen. Nancy and Helen attempt to find the ghost or the person who keeps messing around the house. At the same time, Nancy's father gets swept up in a case of his own where a man named Willie Wheaton wants to build a new railroad, but the papers that have Wheaton's signature on them aren't probably legitimate. What's distracting Nancy and her father the most is a suspicious man named Nathan Gomber, who seems to have something against Nancy and her father. Just like the last book, the main mystery and the sub-mystery seem to have nothing to do with each other, but at the end they come together. I won't tell you how!  This was such a fun book to read!   I just read the very first Nancy Drew novel ever: The Secret of the Old Clock. I've known about Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene for a very long time, I just didn't read one until now.  Apparently there are over 500 Nancy Drew books published in the last several decades. I'm probably only going to read the original series. Luckily the books are really short and largely episodic. So you don't actually have to read them in order. I just started with the first one. I'm glad to report that I enjoyed it!  Of course, keeping it spoiler free, in this book we are introduced to 18-year old Nancy Drew solving her very first case ever.
