Whoa! Where do I begin with this one? The Witch Who Chases the Sun by Dawn Chen is a high fantasy book set mostly in the country of Inabri (inspired by Great Britain) and partially in another country called Aixauh (inspired by China). The story follows two witches (well, one oracle and one alchemist) named Anne and Chely (real name Cai-Li). Chely has returned to her old lover Anne after finding out that people from the town nearby Anne's castle are starting to disappear. Chely tries to find out what the whole deal is while trying to rekindle her relationship with Anne. We find out that Inabri (where Anne is from) and Aixauh (where Chely is originally from) have had two wars back to back with each other, and both girls appear to have trauma from it all. The story also has a ton of other flashbacks to times before, during, and after the girls were with each other. Other people from their pasts also come into the picture: a close friend of theirs named Cole, a notorious pirate named ...

Kay O'Neill is officially a favorite author of mine! Eventually you will see them in my favorite authors series. The Moth Keeper takes place in a world where there is a day village and a night village. The night village has a sacred plant that keeps the village afloat. Our protagonist Anya lives in the night village, and she becomes the keeper of the moths that was gifted by the Night Spirit that help the Night Flower bloom. The moths help pollinate the flower. Being the Moth Keeper is a big responsibility and while she is glad that she is helping so many people, she feels overwhelmed and sometimes lonely. But when things go wrong, Anya's community has her back in more ways than she realized.  I think this book is truly my favorite book from Kay O'Neill so far! It was so magical and so sweet. The characters were awesome and the artwork is gorgeous as usual. There's also queer rep and albinism rep, too! It was a 5 star book for me. 

  An author who recently became a favorite of mine! Well, by recently I mean by last year. The first book I read from her was her most popular one, The Girl who Drank the Moon . It was sooo magical, sweet, and cool! Although I do remember some parts of it being a little confusing.  I then read The Ogress and the Orphans , and I loved it too. Then I read The Witch's Boy, and it became my favorite book from her! Well, so far.  The rest of her books are on my TBR. I hope I can get around to reading one of these soon.  Why do I like Kelly Barnhill's books so much? Because they are the definition of whimsical, enchanting, emotional, and heartfelt. They basically feel very Studio Ghibli-like. If you like Studio Ghibli like myself, you'll like her books! Or maybe you already do. I'd like to see at least one of her books get an adaptation, preferably from Studio Ghibli. 

It's been a while since I visited the wonderful world Travis Baldree created with Legends and Lattes ! (You can read the review for that book here .) It's also been a while since I took a picture of a book with one of my dolls. That's Venus McFlytrap from G3 Monster High. Bookshops and Bonedust is the prequel to Legends and Lattes . This prequel follows Viv the Orc recovering from an injury from her last battle. She spends time in this seaside town called Murk, where she becomes friendly with a colorful cast of new friends, from a restaurant owner named Brand, to a gnome named Gallina, to a carpenter named Pitts, and even her surgeon named Highlark. She also becomes enemies with a guard named Iridia, but even she becomes more of a frenemy later on. However, Viv spends most of her time at a nearby bookshop and the bakery next door to it. She becomes super close with the rattkin that owns the bookshop, named Fern, and her pet griffet Potroast (they're pictured on the c...

  In the mood for a cute, chill, and funny graphic novel with witches in it? Check this out! Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome is a slice-of-life, high fantasy graphic novel following a group of friends who are witches: Planchette (on the cover) is a friendly kitchen witch, Pinyon, a witch who calls herself the "worst witch" in town, Babs, a shy witch who is part siren (type of mermaid), and Sun, a witch with a curse who also works multiple jobs and is frequently grumpy. Most of their adventures usually involve Planchette's new house, which is haunted with ghosts who will only leave if they finally have the one thing they always wanted while they were still alive.  I loved the interactions between the characters, and I loved all the magic, too! I think my favorite thing about this book were the illustrations.  So it is a 5 star book from me. I can't wait to find and read the next volume!

This series (both the manga and anime) has gained some popularity recently! I got around to starting it a while ago. As of writing this I read the first 4 volumes. They've all been 4 stars. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is about an immortal female elf mage named Frieren. She and her group of traveling magical fighter companions defeated the Demon King a long time ago, and have gone their separate ways. The fellowship lasted 10 years, and for Frieren, being an long-living elf, it felt like a very short time for her, and she didn't develop much attachment to her peers. But then one day years and years later one of her peers in the group, named Himmel, dies of old age. Frieren feels sad that she didn't spend more time to know him better, and she plans a new journey with new friends Fern, Stark, and Sein to go to the land of souls to talk to Himmel's spirit. Along the way, they encounter and accomplish mini-missions, just like any ty...

Why aren't more people talking about this book?! It was soooo good! Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend is a middle grade fantasy book about Morrigan Crow, an 11 year old girl who was born on Eventide, which is considered a very unlucky day. She is supposedly cursed and is always gets blamed for bad things that happen in her community, and the curse also dooms her to die at midnight on her 11th birthday.  But as the children in her community are being chosen to become apprentices for the different influential adults in the community, Morrigan gets chosen by an eccentric man named Jupiter North to become his apprentice, something she could never imagine for herself. Morrigan does not die on her birthday because Jupiter shows up to her house and whisks her away to the city of Nevermoor, where she is enrolled to become a member of the Wunderous Society, which is a society for people with (usually magical) gifts. Jupiter is a part of it himself. To join the Wund...

An underrated manga by THE Hayao Miyazaki . It's only one volume long! It was actually published back in the 1980s but it didn't get an English translation until now (well, 2022). Shuna's Journey follows Shuna, who is the prince of a small valley in the mountains which is experiencing a famine. One day Shuna meets a traveler who has some small golden seeds that are unable to be planted, but the traveler tells Shuna that he can find a giant field where golden grain grows to feed his people. The field is in the far west where the moon resides.  On his journey he runs into some slave traders, and rescues two girls from them. One is named Thea and the other girl is her sister. They are supposedly fallen princesses. Shuna tells Thea his plan, and she is happy for him and tells him if he succeeds, she should meet him in a village in the north.  But Shuna then hears from another traveler that the place Shuna needs to get to so he can find the all the golden grain is hard to rea...

  (Pic was found on Google Images) I listened to the 2nd Moomins book by Tove Jansson on audiobook a while ago!  Comet in Moominland picks right up where the very first book, Moomins and the Great Flood , left off (review for that here ). The Moomins and Sniff are living in their iconic blue house, and go on many adventures and meet new friends along the way. These new friends are actually the rest of the iconic Moomin characters: Snufkin, Little My, the Snorkmaiden, the Snork, etc. Yes, they all make their very first appearances in this book. The overarching plot is that there are rumors of a prediction that a comet is going to come to Moominland and destroy everything, and everyone is really scared! But since it's the Moomins, you know it will have a happy ending. The comet does fly through the sky and everyone sees it, but it doesn't land in Moominland. Everything is fine, obviously. Just like the other two Moomin books I read, this was a beautiful, heartfelt, masterpiece....

  T alli: Daughter of the Moon is the first book of an currently ongoing graphic novel series inspired by Japanese manga written and illustrated by French-Laotian author Sourya Sihachakr, and originally published in French. His Instagram is @_sulhya_ . This is a high fantasy story taking place in a medieval European-inspired fantasy setting where the MC, Talli, is torn away from her home and her adoptive father, Lord Borin, after an attack lead by Lord Ulric, who wants to capture Talli. Escaping with her bodyguard Alan, they are trying to get to a place called Blue Whale Port and find a woman named Dame Sybelle who can help them. Along the way, the form a bond with a merchant named Pavel and his grandson Lelo, who is a sword user. Another character named captain Nina is also on the group's heels because she knows about Talli's secret: Talli is a descendant of the moon goddess, and she has divine powers. There are still people in their world that worship and follow the goddess...

  I've seen this manga floating around the Internet for a while, but I've only picked it up now. It is so worth the read! Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama is a high fantasy series about a girl named Coco who is interested in magic. She is told she can't do magic because she was not born a witch, but she believes with the right tools and skills, she can become one. One day Coco plays around with a magical book and pen she got from a mysterious witch she met in a marketplace years ago, and she accidentally ruins her house and turns her mother into stone.  Master Qifrey, a man she met a few days earlier at her family's artisan shop, turns out to be a witch himself, and he takes Coco under his wing after seeing the damage she's done. She then starts studying magic at his atelier along with three other girls, and starts learning magic and other important life lessons along the way, and she hopes one day to return home and save her mother. If this sounds like a whim...

  I've known about the graphic novel series since I was in elementary school because a lot of kids in my class liked it, but I didn't start reading it until now. Just like every series I review on here, I will only review the first book without spoilers, and I will occasionally update you all when I am reading the subsequent books.  The first volume of Bone by Jeff Smith is titled Out from Boneville. Our MCs are the 3 Bone cousins: Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone. They got kicked out of Boneville because of some really bad thing mostly Phoney Bone did (he's also a shady businessman). They accidentally become separated when a huge swarm of locusts chase after them. They then all try to survive without each other. We mostly follow Fone Bone (on the cover of this book) as he tries to survive in the huge woods through the winter. He later encounters and even becomes good friends with a young girl named Thorn and her grandmother, and they let him stay on their fa...
