Underrated Books Part 18

It's been a while since I did an entry in this long running series of mine! Here are some more underrated books I've read over the years that I think need more love:  1. Firefly Summer by Morgan Matson -Ryanna spends the summer with her mom's side of the family for the very first time, and they go on a scavenger hunt to prevent their campgrounds from being shutdown. Also the author's middle grade debut!  2. Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin -set at an inn, a boy named Rendi helps his new friends restore the moon in the sky with help from a mysterious storyteller. Interwoven throughout the story are lots of Chinese folk tales!  3. Call the Name of the Night manga series by Tama Mitsuboshi --a short but heartwarming shojo manga series about a girl named Mira who comes to accept her magical powers. Great for cottagecore lovers!  4. Bianca Torre is Afraid of Everything by Justine Winans --Bianca, their best friend Anderson, and crush Elaine solve a murder myste...

Starry River of the Sky Review

Image
My second book from this author! The first book I read from her was Where the Mountain Meets the Moon , which was the very first book I did I review on this blog. Read my review on it here ! Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin is about Rendi, who has run away from home. He ends up at an inn that's located in a semi-abandoned village, and starts working there. Lots of unusual things happen at this inn and at the village as a whole. The moon is also not in the sky, and the lack of the moon makes Rendi wonder if that is what is affecting the village negatively. As the story goes on and Rendi gets to know the people at the inn more, he hears many stories based in Chinese folklore, and he begins to tell some stories himself. The folktales end up being a key to solving the mystery of the village's downfall.  This book has a similar setup to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon where our young protagonist has a mission and magical folktales are intertwined in the story. It is super c...

SO WHAT WAS MY MOST FAVE READ OF 2022?

Image
Wait! You're probably thinking. Why are you talking about your favorite read in 2022 when we are halfway past 2023? Well, @bookdragon_24 over on Instagram tagged me in a post of her favorite book she read in 2022 a while ago, and I wanted to add onto the conversation. Thanks Ellie! This was a hard decision because I liked and loved a lot of books last year, but for the sake of this post I will have to go with Where the Mountain meet the Moon by Grace Lin . It was the very first book I reviewed on my blog! You can check out said review here . Here's a pic of it again:

Booksta Backstory Challenge Tag

Image
I saw this tag over on the Instagram page of @jacobthebookworm , and I decided to do it, too! Just like the unpopular opinions tag (or every tag I decide to do), I might do this tag once every year as new people follow me. 1. When did you start your booksta/book blog? If you want the exact date, it's August 5th, 2022. 2. What made you start it? I wanted to connect with more people who might have similar reading tastes to me, so we can gush about our faves and give each other recommendations. 3. What inspired your username? I like candy and bunnies since they are cute things since I love all things cute, so that's why I meshed them together to get "Candy Bunny Reader".  4. First review? Where the Mountain meet the Moon by Grace Lin! You can find that review here . 5. Favorite thing about booksta/book blogs? You can discover a bunch of books you never heard before that might become your favorites, or find people who share similar, if not, the exact same opinions as yo...
