Why aren't more people talking about this book?! It was soooo good! Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend is a middle grade fantasy book about Morrigan Crow, an 11 year old girl who was born on Eventide, which is considered a very unlucky day. She is supposedly cursed and is always gets blamed for bad things that happen in her community, and the curse also dooms her to die at midnight on her 11th birthday.  But as the children in her community are being chosen to become apprentices for the different influential adults in the community, Morrigan gets chosen by an eccentric man named Jupiter North to become his apprentice, something she could never imagine for herself. Morrigan does not die on her birthday because Jupiter shows up to her house and whisks her away to the city of Nevermoor, where she is enrolled to become a member of the Wunderous Society, which is a society for people with (usually magical) gifts.   (Pic was found on Google Images) Yup, another book I read months ago during the HarperCollins's strike and I am just now reviewing. It's my first Daphne du Maurier book! Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is about a young woman (her name is never mentioned in the book, but the fake name I came up for her is January 😂) who, while on vacation in Monte Carlo, meets and marries a widower named Maxim de Winter. When she goes to live with him in his estate (called Manderley), she sees that everyone associated with Maxim (his family, friends, and other people working on the estate, especially the head housekeeper Mrs. Danvers) can't stop talking about and reminiscing about Maxim's first wife, named Rebecca, and how wonderful she supposedly was. The MC then feels that no matter what. she will always be in Rebecca's shadow. But then a dark turn of events happen that completely change her views on Manderley, Maxim, and especially Rebecca.  I will tell you right now I gave it 4 ...

  So I picked up this graphic novel on a whim at the library a few days ago because I needed something smaller to read as I am reading three bigger books. Well, this was fun! Creepy Cat by Cotton Valent is a slice of life gothic graphic novel of a goth girl named Flora who moves into a gothic mansion she inherited from a family member of hers, and discovers the place is "haunted" by some cat-looking creature who can shapeshift, multiply itself, and do other odd things. Flora is very excited to have this cat, but he sometimes makes her life difficult, and sometimes the police gets involve. The policeman who visits her house frequently is named Oscar, and Flora eventually befriends him, too. Flora and Oscar then try to figure out what this cat like creature is and why he behaves so strange while going about their daily lives.  I know it sounds like there is an overarching plot, but for the most part, there isn't really a cohesive plot.
