Adapatations that are Better than their Books!

Yup, sometimes the adaptations of popular books are better than the books themselves. Here are some adaptations of books I thought were better than their source material. And why. 1. The Princess Diaries- y'all know I didn't like the book for this one! This movie with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews is much more family-friendly. Plus, the characters are way more likable.  2. Mary Poppins- I tried reading the book a few years ago and I DNF'd it because book Mary Poppins was so snooty and condescending for no good reason. The movie with Julie Andrews makes her a much more fun and nice nanny.  3. Kiki's Delivery Service- well, the book for this one was still good, but I liked the simplicity and themes of the movie way more. Plus, my favorite character of the artist girl Ursula has a bigger role in the movie than in the book.  4. The Last Unicorn- the book is still pretty good, but I didn't like Prince Lir! He's very pushy and obsessed with the unicorn/Lady Amalthea...

I Finally Started the Frieren manga!

Image
This series (both the manga and anime) has gained some popularity recently! I got around to starting it a while ago. As of writing this I read the first 4 volumes. They've all been 4 stars. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is about an immortal female elf mage named Frieren. She and her group of traveling magical fighter companions defeated the Demon King a long time ago, and have gone their separate ways. The fellowship lasted 10 years, and for Frieren, being an long-living elf, it felt like a very short time for her, and she didn't develop much attachment to her peers. But then one day years and years later one of her peers in the group, named Himmel, dies of old age. Frieren feels sad that she didn't spend more time to know him better, and she plans a new journey with new friends Fern, Stark, and Sein to go to the land of souls to talk to Himmel's spirit. Along the way, they encounter and accomplish mini-missions, just like any ty...

I was tagged to do this by @books.below.stars over on my Instagram. I will be posting my answers here too. The prompts are based on songs on Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS Album. As always, feel free to do this tag if you see it! 1. all american b*tch (an underrated book) The Witch's Boy by Kelly Barnhill 2. bad idea right (a book you missed sleep for) None. I always read during the day. I care about sleeping enough. 😉 3. vampire (a book that broke you) Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech 4. lacy (a book with an envious character) The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle (character in question is Prince Lir) 5. ballad of a homeschooled girl (a book that you like that other people don't) Well, the book is more divided than widely disliked, but I'll have to go with Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson. 6. logical (a book with a red flag love interest) Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (the character in question is Maxim de Winter) 7. get him back! (A book you have mixed feelings for) Nick...

Double Review: The Last Unicorn and Mr. Popper's Penguins

Image
So I was able to finish two books on the same day. They are: The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle and Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater.   I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I actually watched The Last Unicorn movie first, way back when I was a kid. I'm glad to report that the movie is 99% just like the book! The Last Unicorn is a fantasy novel that follows a unicorn who, for a long time, did not know she was the last unicorn on Earth. All the other unicorns were driven out by a monster named the Red Bull, for reasons the unicorn will later find out. With the help of a magician named Schmendrick and a cook named Molly, the unicorn goes on an adventure to find out what happened to her kind and bring them back. An evil king named Haggard and his kindly son Lir also get involved in the unicorn's mission.  This was such a magical and thoughtful book! Peter S. Beagle is a writer with great, lyrical prose. If you liked the movie, you'll also l...
