One Piece Heroines 2

Image
The One Piece anime is back! But I am still in the Wano arc as of writing this.  Anyway, I finally read One Piece: Heroines Volume 2 ! Just like the first one, this follows a bunch of short stories about different girls from the One Piece universe. The girls this time are: Boa Hancock, Tashigi, Reiju, and Uta. We also get a bonus chapter of Nami and Robin! My favorite story is Uta's story--it was really sweet! My second favorite was Reiju's because it made me emotional. Tashigi's story is cool, too, and so is Nami and Robin's. I didn't really like Hancock's story--it was a little odd. So I gave the book 4.5 stars . But if you're a One Piece fan like me, you'll probably like this too! I heard that the Heroine's novels are getting an adaptation soon, coming out this July.

February Wrap Up

I read a total of 8 books and only DNF 1 .  Here they all are: The 5 stars: 1. Sakura Saku Volume 9 (the last volume!) by Io Sakisaka 2. One Piece: Law's Story by Sakagami Shusei and Eichiro Oda 3. Shadows House Volume 8 by Somato 4. Pet by Akwaeke Emezi 5. When it All Syncs Up by Maya Ameyaw     The 4.5 stars: 1.  Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura 2. A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan 3. Shadows House Volume 7 by Somato    The 1 DNF (because I thought it was bad):    The Island Volume 1 by Gordon Korman

OP: Law's Story Review

Image
Omg this might be my favorite One Piece spinoff novel so far! One Piece: Law's Story by Eichiro Oda and Shusei Sakagami is the story of the character Trafalgar D. Water Law on how he met his closest crew members (Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin) and formed the Heart Pirates. He learns a lot about doctoring and martial arts, but especially life, love, and kindness from his new guardian, an eccentric elderly scientist named Wolf.  I can't get too into it because you'd have to be very familiar with One Piece to understand it, but let's just say this book warmed my heart so much! It's very emotional and well written, and it definitely made me love Law even more as a character. I am so glad we get books like these to get to know certain characters in the world of One Piece more. That's because in the main storyline, we only get bits and pieces of other characters backstories, but books like these put it all together.  So yeah, I gave it 5 stars . It's a must read f...

January Wrap Up

Image
I've officially decided to make my wrap up posts just like what I have over on my Instagram. It's more colorful and eye-catching, anyway. And you actually get to see all of the books I read.

OP: Ace's Story (the manga)

Image
But like anytime I talk about One Piece on here, I keep it mostly vague since not everyone reading this has watched or read the main series. By the way, these particular volumes were written and illustrated by Boichi , but it was overseen by the original creator, Eichiro Oda .   Volume 1, in short, is about how Portgas D. Ace, Luffy's (the MC of One Piece) adoptive brother, kicks off his pirate journey. From meeting his closest mate Masked Deuce to eating the Flame-Flame fruit, we see him and his new crew, the Spade Pirates, travel most of the world. We also see Ace's motivations to fight the man whom he will later join, Whitebeard. Volume 2 continues with Ace's desire to fight Whitebeard and prove his strength. In this volume we spend more time seeing Ace interact with Whitebeard's main pirate crew, as well as Ace's own insecurities. As you can imagine, he does join Whitebeard's crew, and said captain becomes his father figure. We also get a little bit of Bl...

Wanted! + One Piece Heroines Volume 1

Image
As a One Piece fan, I had to pick these up. This is not going to be like my typical reviews since there isn't much to say about these two books. I also can't get too into them because I know not everyone here has read or watched One Piece. Wanted! is just a compilation of random comic stories that creator Eichiro Oda wrote before he officially started One Piece. The last comic, Romance Dawn, is basically a rough draft for One Piece! i gave it 4 stars . One Piece Heroines Volume 1 is a light novel of stand alone stories set in the world of One Piece following four of the female characters: Nami, Robin, Vivi, and Perona. They are pretty lighthearted, so they're great for reading if you want a break from the intensity of the main One Piece storyline.  Or if you're in the mood for something more chill. I gave it 5 stars .

My Salty Mary Review

Image
(I made this in Canva and the pic of the book was found on Google Images) This is the third installment of the Mary series by Cynthia Hand, Brodie Ashton, and Jodi Meadows! My Salty Mary is a historical fantasy story where The Little Mermaid doesn't actually turn into sea foam after the man she loves weds another woman. She, now living as a human named Mary Read, instead decides to disguise herself as a man and join a pirate crew. She eventually works her way up from cabinboy to captain, and joins a contest to be the next Pirate King (One Piece reference maybe😂???) after the most notorious pirate Blackbeard dies. Mary deals with many other things along the way, such as being torn between her new life as a human and a former mermaid (especially when her father, the Sea King, wants her to come back home), dealing with a new found love with Tobias (who is her navigator and one of Blackbeard's sons). At the same time, Mary's cousin Jack (his mother is the Sea Witch, who is ...

Anime/Manga Poem #6

Image
Here's the thing: today's poem is inspired by One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. And today is One Piece's 25th anniversary!!! Yay!!!  However, One Piece has sooo much music surrounding it, since it is a 25 year franchise. So instead of one of the openings or other random songs, I decided to share a video of the live-action actors having fun. Ironically, I haven't seen the live action version yet. I do follow the official page and most of the actors on Instagram, though. This will be one of the last poems I will post in a while. I will resume with more anime/manga poems in December.  Poem: Come with me to the colorful world Of colorful people Of colorful fruit And all things magic Doesn’t matter who you are You’re never too old To follow your dreams So start sailing! Pirate or marine Or…something else Go find the one thing You’re looking for You’ll run into some jerks—oh yes Jerks are everywhere, they say But with the found family that you found Y...

Favorite Anime Part 4!

It's been a while since I talked about anime I liked! Here are 4 more.  Parts 1-3 can be viewed here: Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 1. One Piece This is pretty obvious if you know me in real life. 😜 I don't need to explain what it is about since it's one of the best selling manga series of all time. Pretty much everyone knows what it's about. 2. Skip Beat! A young woman named Kyoko follows her childhood friend Shu to the big city where he's become a star! Unfortunately, she finds out he was using her the whole time to boost his own career. Feeling hurt, she decides to get revenge on him by competing in show business as an actress. Along the way, Kyoko meets new friends, including one mysterious guy named Ren. She learns to start doing things for herself instead of trying to please others. I've only watched the anime for this so far! I plan on reading the rest of the story through the manga sometime.  3. Magic Knight Rayearth In 1994 Tokyo, at the Tokyo Tower to be...

Bianca Torre is Afraid of Everything Review

Image
TW: Mentioning of murder Whoa! Where do I begin? Bianca Torre is Afraid of Everything by Justine Pucella Winans is about Bianca, a nonbinary lesbian teenager who has a long list of fears. They spend a lot of their free time either secretly observing and making up stories about their neighbors, watching anime with their best friend Anderson, and birdwatching. But one day, Bianca witnesses something terrible happen to one of their neighbors: a guy they call Mr. Conspiracy. He gets murdered by a mysterious person wearing a bird mask. Bianca, Anderson, and later a girl Bianca has a crush on named Elaine all work together to solve the murder mystery.  This book got me hooked from page 1! And it might seem a bit odd, because I don't usually vibe with murder mysteries, but this author and this story made it work for me! The mystery part of it was cool. I think what I liked the most was the characters. They were all so likable and so relatable (well, the good guys, definitely not th...
