Passing for Human Review

Image
This book is a part of the 12 books by 12 friends reading challenge. Passing for Human by Liana Finck is a graphic novel memoir of the author growing up in addition to her family's history. The central theme is "finding your shadow...again", which is basically a message of never losing sight of who you really are, even when the world seems against you. The author illustrates this through her own love of art. Sometimes the main story line gets interrupted with the Creation story from Genesis, but it ties in really well with the overall theme.  This was such an emotional and moving memoir! I love Finck's art style--it is so unique and whimsical. I gave this book a solid 5 stars .

One last book I DNF for Middle Grade March

Image
And it's this book! I just could not get into it...  Seriously, it's like every time I participate in a readathon or a book challenge of some kind, I end up DNFing or giving a low rating to most of the books I read. I think I might have to take a break from readathons for a while. I am still doing the 12 books 12 friends challenge for the rest of the year though!  Image of book was found on Google Images

Greenglass House Review

Image
(Made in Canva by me. Photo of book found on Google Images) This book is a part of the 12 books from 12 friends challenge , and was recommended by @carolynolmstead_author on Instagram.    Greenglass House by Kate Milford is a middle grade mystery book set at a mysterious inn called Greenglass House, which itself is situated in a small town known for its smugglers. The owners of the inn are the Pine family, which consists of Mr and Mrs Pine and their 12 year old son Milo. Milo was looking forward to a quiet and cozy winter break, but then all of a sudden a handful of guests arrive. The guests are: Mr. Vinge, an elderly man who always wears multicolored socks. Georgie, a young blue haired woman who likes to read and invent things, Mrs. Hereward, an elderly woman who probably has ties connected to the Greenglass House, Dr. Gowervine, a professor who likes to study stained glass, and Clem, a red haired young woman who likes to exercise. All of the guests seem like they ar...

12 Books 12 Friends #1: Creepy Cat Manga Series

Image
(Made in Canva by me. Pics were found on Google Images) T his is my first review for the 12 books 12 friends recommendations challenge . The Creepy Cat series by Cotton Valent was recommended by @rhymingvine over on Instagram.  Wanna know something weird about this series? I actually read the first volume back in 2023, I gave it 4 stars, and in that review I said I would read the rest of the books, but somehow I forgot about them until now. You can view that post here .  Well, I finally read all 4 books! What do I think about the series as a whole? The rest of the series is not what I expected! Book 1 is very much slice of life with Flora (our 20-something goth artist lady MC) dealing with Creepy Cat's magical shenanigans in her new house, along with her new friend Oscar, a police officer who has had a crush on her since they both were in high school. In the next several books we get introduced to even more Creepy Cats (just with different colored fur and different names). We...
