Unpopular Opinions Book Tag 2024 Edition

I also do this tag every year in September! If you choose to do this tag, I hope to see your answers. 1.  A popular book or series you didn't like.  As always, I have too many answers for this one. I guess I'll have to go with one I read this year that was pretty disappointing: Josee, The Tiger, and The Fish by Seiko Tanabe. 2.  A book/series a lot of people don't like, but you liked.  I think these two books are more divided than widely disliked. They are The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I really liked those two books, especially A Little Princess! 3.  A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person didn’t want them to end up with/an OTP that you don’t like. I will try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible, but let's just say I do not like who Xingyin (the MC) ends up with in Heart of the Sun Warrior (the sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess ) by Sue Lynn Tan. Very disappointing ...

March Wrap Up

I read a total of 11 books this month! You might notice I did not put any One Piece manga volumes here. That is because I decided to switch to the anime! So I am still consuming the story, but in a different format. I think the anime adaption by Toei is really well done!  Anyway, how did your reading go last month? Find any new favorites? 1. Ellie Engle Saves Herself by Leah Johnson. A middle grade urban fantasy book of a girl named Ellie who loves superhero stories. One day, she mysteriously gets magical powers to bring dead things back to life. Ellie tries to keep her powers a secret, but it isn't easy. I unfortunately gave this book 3 stars . Interesting premise, weak execution. You can read the full review here.  2. The Unfinished Angel by Sharon Creech. A magical realism novella set in a small village in Switzerland narrated by an eccentric unnamed guardian angel. We get to meet and learn about the people in the town, most notably an American girl named Zola, who...

DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS-AN NEW FAVORITE OF ALL TIME

Image
It feels like this book was written just for me! Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan is a fantasy novel inspired by Chinese folklore. Xingyin is the daughter of the moon goddess, Chang'e, and she grew up in isolation with her mother and her maid Ping'er in the Pure Light Palace (the moon). Her mother is being held prisoner by the Celestial Emperor and Empress for drinking an elixer that was actually for Xingyin's father, a mortal who slayed a bunch a sunbirds. One day when Xingyin's magical powers awaken and she uses them, the Celestial royals sense her magic and come to her house wondering what is going on. Luckily they don't see Xingyin, but her mother Chang'e tells her it's not safe for her to stay in her own house and has to go out into the world.  Xingyin then finds herself in the Celestial Kingdom for the first time, and develops the goal of freeing her mother from imprisonment. She then goes on a long journey where meets both many wonderfu...

Emotions Challenge Tag

Image
I've been doing a lot of tags recently, huh? I can't help it! They're so much fun! But I did see this tag over at @theartemisduology on Instagram and I really wanted to do it. So here we go! 1. Happiness-a book you enjoyed. Earlier this year, I enjoyed reading Anne of the Island by LM Montgomery. It is the 3rd book in the Anne of Green Gables series. It is just as heartwarming and sweet as it's predecessors! 2. Sadness- A book that made you have all the feels. Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon Highly recommended, btw! 3. Embarrassment- A book you haven't read that everyone else has. There are way too many to name because I don't usually gravitate towards popular books, BUT... I really want to get around to reading To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han. Yeah, I know I'll be super duper late to the party. That's what you'll get with Candy Bunny Reader.  4. Anticipation-A book you cannot wait to read. As of now, Daughter of the Moon Godde...
