Unpopular Opinions Book Tag, 2025 Edition

Today we will start with sharing my unpopular opinions for 2025. Here are my answers from the last several years: 2022, 2023, and 2024.

As usual, feel free to do this tag, too!

1. A popular book or series you didn't like.

I actually DNF'd this book back in June. It was She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen. I found the MC Scottie to be really unlikable, and I also found her relationship with the other girl Irene to be pretty toxic.

2. A book/series a lot of people don't like, but you liked.

Maybe Funny Story by Emily Henry? Henry's books in general are pretty divided. Funny Story is my favorite book from her so far!

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person didn’t want them to end up with/an OTP that you don’t like.

I don't have an answer for this year!

4. A popular genre you hardly reach for.

Still horror. But so far I have read the first two books of the Blight Harbor series by Lora Senf and I've loved them both! I am currently reading the third book.

5. A popular or beloved character you do not like.

Maybe Avatar Kyoshi? Well, I don't completely despise her, but I don't like her as much as the rest of the Avatar fandom seems to like her.

6. An author whose books that you couldn't get into.

I also don't have an answer for this year!

7. A popular book trope you're tired of seeing.

This is just a fiction trope in general that I recently noticed that irks me: when the villain was acting villainous against their will. In other words, they were only acting evil because someone hypnotized them or was possessing them to act evil. They weren't being evil because they wanted to. It's such a cheap cop-out when writers do this!

8. A popular book/series you have no interest in reading.

There are several manga series I have no care to read, or watch their anime. They are: Fullmetal Alchemist, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Orange, and Your Lie in April.

Unless any of you can convince me otherwise which one of these are worth my time!

9. What movie/tv show adaptation is better than the book/series it's based on?

Howl's Moving Castle! I love the Studio Ghibli movie, but the original book by Diana Wynne Jones is really mediocre, in my opinion.
