Our Dreams at Dusk Volume 1

 TW: Suicide attempt

This was another manga I picked up on a whim at the library.

Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani is about a teenage boy named Tasuku who is gay and has been in the closet for a while, but he thinks he's been outed after some classmates took a look at his search history on his phone. Tasuku gets very distressed and tries to jump off of a high building, but is stopped in his tracks when he sees a mysterious person jump off of the same area but they land unharmed, and they enter a small building that looks like a clubhouse. Tasuku decides to check out that small building and finds out it is a drop-in center for people like him (part of the LGBT community!) to socialize, and the mysterious person who he saw earlier runs the place. They preferred to be called Someone-san.

Tasuku starts talking to Someone-san and the rest of the people in the club, and they tell him he is allowed to drop in (hence the name) anytime he wants to hang out. Tasuku slowly gets to know some other members like Utsumi and Haruko who are seen together a lot, and Tchaiko-san, an elderly man who likes music by Tchaikovsky. Tasuku becomes especially good friends with Haruko, who happens to be a lesbian and has a girlfriend named Saki. They all start a project together to renovate old buildings in their town, and through there Tasuku learns more about Haruko and she shares some difficulties being a lesbian out of the closet. Slowly, things start to look better for Tasuku.

This was such a great manga so far with great LGBT rep! It is largely slice-of-life and the majority of the characters are so wonderful.

But I did give it 4.5 stars for Tasuku's suicide attempt. Just please be careful if you do choose to read this. ❤️

Fun fact: the author of this manga is also x-gender and asexual!

Do you have any more manga recommendations that don't have an anime adaptation yet? Let me know!
