Ranking Barbie Movies from the 2000s!

One of my special interests is Barbie, particularly the Barbie movies (only the animated ones, I don't plan to watch the live action one).

This is my own ranking of the ones from the 2000s. Please keep in mind this is my own personal opinion! I do actually like all of the movies, but I like some more than others.

I do not own Barbie. Barbie is owned by Mattel.

16. Three Musketeers-story was interesting, but it did feel dragged out at times

15. The Barbie Diaries-good story but a huge outlier because it’s not a whimsical fantasy story, which I prefer for Barbie. The animation quality is pretty bad, too.

14. Fairytopia-a good story but Elina’s subplot about not having wings and then getting wings felt a bit ableist. They should’ve at least made her wings removable.

13. Thumbelina-good story but not really about Barbie, or a character she plays

12. The Nutcracker-good movie but I felt it didn’t have very high stakes. Then again, it was the first Barbie movie made, so they had yet to find their storytelling formula. The ending is beautiful though!

11. The Island Princess-good story but I think we can all agree Tika the elephant was quite annoying

10. Magic of Pegasus-great story but Wenlock (the villain) is kind of creepy.

9. Rapunzel-where the Barbie movies really found their identity.

8. Mermaidia-great adventure movie! Lots of funny moments.

7. Christmas Carol-it felt different than her other movies, but in a good way! Eden was a more complex character, and the story is relatively darker (but not as dark as the original book by Charles Dickens).

6. Swan Lake-classic ballet story. Plus, the Fairy Queen has always been one of my favorite characters. She’s so lovely! Odile (Rothbart’s daughter) is also hilarious and sassy. So is Lila the unicorn.

5. The Diamond Castle-such a whimsical, heartfelt story. The music is perfection, especially the theme song Connected.

4. The Magic of the Rainbow-lots of new characters! And so many more stakes in the story.

3. The Princess and the Pauper-It’s a classic!

2. 12 Dancing Princesses-so enchanting! It always reminds me of my love for ballet.

1. Mariposa-such an enchanting story, and Mariposa is so relatable to me!
