Wings of Starlight Review

 

 

This book is a prequel to my favorite of the Disney Fairies movies: Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings!

Wings of Starlight by Allison Saft is the story of how Queen Clarion and Lord Milori that we're all familiar with from Secret of the Wings met, fell in love, and, unfortunately, how Milori got his wings broken. This story is set before Clarion becomes queen of Pixie Hollow. Lately, Nightmares, which are scary creatures filled with negative energy from the bad dreams of human children from the Mainland, have been attacking the warmer seasons of Pixie Hollow. Apparently, they came from Winter. Several fairies of the warmer seasons don't trust the Winter fairies (including the current queen. Elvina), but Clarion secretly meets and teams up with Milori (here, he's the Warden of the Winter Woods). They work together to come up with a plan to seal away the Nightmares once and for all, but it isn't easy! 

This was such a beautifully well-written book! It is a must read if you love the Disney Fairies like me. This book felt like it could've been one of the Disney Fairies movies! 

Oh, and there is some surprise queer representation, too! Clarion's bodyguard Artemis, and a tinker fairy named Petra become a sapphic couple. 

So yes, this magical book gets 5 stars from me.

  OMG! I think I found my true favorite Sharon Creech book of all time! Bloomability is now at the number two spot. The Wanderer is about thirteen year old Sophie, who goes on a sailing trip with her two cousins and three uncles across the Atlantic Ocean to meet her grandfather, Bompie, in England. They make a lot of pit stops along the way to get their boat fixed and to pick up more supplies. Sophie and her cousins also learn a lot along the way: about sailing, stories about each other, their uncles, and Bompie, and other random things like juggling. But the trip is not a smooth one! Sailing out onto the ocean blue isn't as whimsical as Sophie thought it would be, and they run into a lot of problems. Favorite Authors Part 9: Kelly Barnhill

  An author who recently became a favorite of mine! Well, by recently I mean by last year. The first book I read from her was her most popular one, The Girl who Drank the Moon . It was sooo magical, sweet, and cool! Although I do remember some parts of it being a little confusing.  I then read The Ogress and the Orphans , and I loved it too. Then I read The Witch's Boy, and it became my favorite book from her! Well, so far.  The rest of her books are on my TBR. I hope I can get around to reading one of these soon.  Why do I like Kelly Barnhill's books so much? Because they are the definition of whimsical, enchanting, emotional, and heartfelt. They basically feel very Studio Ghibli-like. If you like Studio Ghibli like myself, you'll like her books! Or maybe you already do. I'd like to see at least one of her books get an adaptation, preferably from Studio Ghibli.

WORST BOOKS OF 2022

  These are books I read in their entirety this year. These are not books I DNF (did not finish). That will be it's own separate post. The best books of the year will come later this week. That will be more in list format since I read so many good books this year. This post and the DNF post which will also come later will be more detailed since I read very few books I didn't like this year. 1. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (pictured above) This book is about a girl named Mary Lennox who grew up in India and has been spoiled her whole life, but is also really lonely and craving company. After her parents die, she is sent to live with her rich Uncle Craven in the UK. There she meets a ton of new, friendly people and starts forming real human connections, and discovers a hidden garden that belonged to her late aunt that her uncle closed up after she died.
