I'VE STARTED READING SPYXFAMILY!!!

I unfortunately can't watch the anime right now because I don't have a subscription to Crunchyroll. But reading the manga is equally a fun experience!

Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo takes place in a location that seems to be inspired by Germany during the Cold War in real life. This fictional country is divided in two: Westalis and Ostania. Our MC is a spy with the codename Twilight and is from Westalis. He is tasked with a mission to get information from a shady government official from Ostania named Donovan Desmond, who only makes public appearances at his son's elite school. Twilight has to carry out the mission by adopting a kid, getting married to some woman, enrolling the kid into the academy, and pretending to be a parent in order to get information on Donovan.

Twilight adopts the name Loid and adopts a telepathic girl from an orphanage named Anya. Anya immediately becomes attached to Loid, which is really cute to watch. Like all kids, she is a handful, but also really sweet. However, she gets really overwhelmed in crowds due to being telepathic, as she can hear people's thoughts all the time against her will. She even finds out that Loid needs her for his spy mission, but she doesn't seem to mind most of the time since she likes spy related things thanks to her favorite tv show. It's a hard process, but Anya works really hard to sharpen her skills and pass the entrance exam to get into the elite school Loid needs to infiltrate, named Eden Academy.

Eden Academy also needs an interview from kids' parents, and so Loid scrambles to find himself a wife and a good mother to Anya within a short amount of time. He happens to run into Yor, a woman who works for the city's city hall, at a dress shop. Yor is also really sweet, but she also happens to secretly be the city's top deadliest assassin, with the alias Thorn Princess. Loid doesn't know this, but Anya obviously does due to her telepathy. However, Yor's fighting skills happen to be really useful later on when they encounter bad guys. I loved watching Yor bond with Anya as her mother.

I'll end it there for now. This was such a great book about found family (obviously) and going on dangerous missions. It was a perfect mix of cozy and sweet while also being high stakes and intense. All the characters (well, at least our main characters so far), had so much depth even just for book 1! I will be reading the rest of the series for sure.

Based on how much praise I gave it, it is getting 5 stars

Are there any popular manga/books you want to get around to as soon as possible?
