FLIP THE SCRIPT SPOILER FREE REVIEW

This book is proof Lyla Lee is one of my favorite authors ever!

Flip the Script is a YA Contemporary book about a Korean-American girl named Hana who lives in South Korea. She is an actress debuting in a new K-Drama called Fated Destiny alongside a teenage K-pop sensation named Bryan. As the show starts airing on TV, it isn't doing so hot on ratings, so the company president makes a decision for Hana and Bryan to start fake-dating, thinking it will boost viewership if fans see the actors "dating". Hana and Bryan aren't too sure about it, but they want their acting careers to take off, so they initially agree to do it. However, Hana has a secret: she's bi, and she has had a long time crush on her best friend and veteran K-Drama actress Minjee. Things start to get intense when a decision is made to cast Minjee as the love rival character in the show. Now Hana, Bryan, and Minjee all start trying to achieve their individual goals when it comes to their love lives instead of always going along with what the company president wants.

Words cannot express what a great book this was. I feel like Lyla Lee is always reading my mind. There's so much relatable and sassy dialogue in this book, and you'll learn a lot about Korean culture, K-Dramas, and the K-Pop industry in this book if you weren't familiar with it before!

It's also has great queer representation and some meta commentary on being queer in South Korea. It also happens to take place in the same universe as I'll Be The One, Lee's previous book. Skye, the main character of that book, is briefly mentioned in the beginning as one of Hana's favorite singers.

I give this book 5 stars. I should warn you the book has some brief queerphobia in some parts of the book and there is one part where the characters get stalked, but it's all handled well.

Even though the book is mostly about K Dramas, I thought it would be perfect to put my Rainbow High K Pop doll of Tessa Park next to the book. Well, at least Bryan in the book is also a K pop star himself.

Do you like any K Dramas or K Pop stars/groups?
