If You'll Have Me Review

Image
What's the last sapphic book you read? If You'll Have Me by Eunnie follows Momo--a shy, quiet girl in her first year of college with few friends and a low-key life. One day, she delivers notes and homework for a class to a classmate of her friend and roommate, Kayla. While there, she sees a girl named PG for the first time in the classmate's dorm room. PG has rumors going around about her that she doesn't stay in a relationship with anyone for too long, and she uses people for her own benefit a lot. The truth is, PG is just a shy as Momo is, and has trouble maintaining any kind of relationship, romantic and platonic, due to something that happened to her in her past with an old friend.  Momo and PG meet for real for the first time at a party, and even dance together! From then on out, they start hanging out more and get to know each other better, and fall in love. They both experience stepping out of their comfort zone for the first time and confront their pasts, too

I Finally Started the Frieren manga!

Image
This series (both the manga and anime) has gained some popularity recently! I got around to starting it a while ago. As of writing this I read the first 4 volumes. They've all been 4 stars. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is about an immortal female elf mage named Frieren. She and her group of traveling magical fighter companions defeated the Demon King a long time ago, and have gone their separate ways. The fellowship lasted 10 years, and for Frieren, being an long-living elf, it felt like a very short time for her, and she didn't develop much attachment to her peers. But then one day years and years later one of her peers in the group, named Himmel, dies of old age. Frieren feels sad that she didn't spend more time to know him better, and she plans a new journey with new friends Fern, Stark, and Sein to go to the land of souls to talk to Himmel's spirit. Along the way, they encounter and accomplish mini-missions, just like any ty

The Penderwicks Review

Image
Have you ever had expectations for a book that were... just a little too high? Fun fact: I originally DNF'd (did not finish) this book a few years ago, but I decided to give it a second chance. Was it good the second time around? Well... The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall is a middle-grade novel about four sisters (oldest to youngest): Rosaline, Jane, Skye, and Batty, and their father, spending the summer in a cottage that is part of the grounds of a huge mansion. They become friends with the landlord's son, named Jeffery. They love each other's company, but Jeffery's mom thinks that the Penderwick sisters are a bad influence on him, and she has other plans for her son that he doesn't like. Along with their adventures with playing in nature, and playing with the pet rabbits of the groundskeeper named Cagney, the Penderwicks try to help Jeffery deal with his overbearing mother. This sounded like something right up my alley, and I enjoyed it for the most part, but

The Sprite and the Gardener Review

Image
This book was sooo sweet and sooo cute! The Sprite and the Gardener by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt takes place in our world--with some magic! Sprites have lived for centuries helping all kinds of plants grow with their magic. Until humans came along and started doing gardening themselves. The sprites are still around but they help less and less. One little sprite named Wisteria secretly discovers a human girl named Elena who takes care of her mother's flower garden, as her mother is out working all day. Wisteria decides to secretly help Elena's garden grow, as long as she isn't discovered.  If you couldn't already tell, Wisteria does get discovered by Elena. And everything changes from there.  What a magical book! I love the whimsical illustrations, and I loved what a chill, slice-of-life cottagecore book this was.  It is a pure 5 star book . I want to read more from this author and illustrator. What was the last "chill" book you read?

Favorite Anime Part 3

The last time I made a post talking about anime was way over a year ago! I have sooo many favorite shows, and I want to talk more about them. Here are parts 1 and 2 if you missed them or want to see them again. 1. Several of the Pretty Cure series.  PreCure is a magical girl franchise has been going on since 2004, and every season is a different story. So far my favorite seasons that I have seen are: HeartCatch Precure (the first one I watched!), Delicious Party Precure, Star Twinkle Precure, and Soaring Sky PreCure. Every season follows the same formula: an alternate magical world gets in trouble with some bad guy and their minions. Some magical being (usually an animal-like fairy) comes to our world to seek out the PreCure, the teenage girls from our world who become magical to fight the monsters the bad guy tries to attack our world with. As more monsters appear, they become more powerful, our protagonists have power-ups, and then they defeat the big bad! The series overall has be

If You Still Recognize Me Review

Image
Another perfect Sapphic romance book! If You Still Recognize Me by Cynthia So is about Elsie--an 18 year old young woman who gets the most unexpected summer of her life before college. She has a crush on a friend  that she met online  who is a fanfiction writer of her favorite comic series--Eden Recoiling. The friend's name is Ada, and Elsie wants to confess her feelings for her, but she doesn't know how.  Ada also tells Elsie a story of a woman named Theresa Bennett that her (Ada's) grandmother named Rebecca knew when she still lived in the UK. Apparently, the two women were really close friends, and Rebecca developed some romantic feelings for her, but then Rebecca moved to the US after getting married to Ada's grandfather. The two women still communicated through letters, but one day, the letters stopped coming. Rebecca still thinks about Theresa from time to time, and would like to reunite with her. Ada sends Elsie Rebecca's letters from Theresa, and decides

Underrated Books Part 6

Here is Part 6 of underrated books you should add to your TBR! Check out the first 5 parts on here: Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 , Part 4 , Part 5 1. Kitchen Princess manga series by Miyuki Kobayashi and Natsumi Ando. I read this manga when I was in middle school and it's one of my favorites. This is about Najika, a girl who is an orphan who likes cooking and baking. Her birth parents were also famous chefs. One day when she was little she met a mysterious boy who gave her some flan and a fancy spoon to eat it with to cheer her up. Years later she still thinks about him and decides to go find him. She calls him "her Flan prince." She gets a clue about him from the spoon he gave her: it has the seal of a famous cooking school. Najika decides to attend the school to learn to make more foods but also to find her Flan prince. There she gets tangled up in a lot of drama, but also makes new friends along the way. This is such a cute, sweet, and emotional shojo manga!  2. In The

April Wrap Up

I only read 5 books last month, but they were all highly rated! I hope you found a new favorite book in April, too. 1. The Puppets of Spelhorst by Kate DiCamillo. This is the first of a new series by Kate DiCamillo. It follows 5 sentient puppets: a girl, a boy, a kind, a wolf, and an owl. They used to be owned by an old sailor with the last name Spelhorst. The puppets get donated and bought by two rich young sisters named Emma and Martha. They decide to write and perform a play with the puppets, but a series of mishaps happen that get in the way of play being performed, but when it gets performed, it turns out to be a success. Very whimsical and fairy-tale like short book. Gave it 5 stars . Full review here .  2. Avatar North and South Part 1, 2, and 3 by Gene Yang. Still continuing on with the Avatar graphic novel sequels, this time set in Katara and Sokka's homeland, the Southern Water Tribe. All 5 stars ! 3. Granny Torrelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech. Another top favorite of mi
